How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Couldn't think of anything .all great !
Friendly and welcoming warm and cosy villa Karen great banter and very informative .buses run every ten minutes to town centre and neighbouring beach resorts .breakfast excellent booked long weekend couple years ago as Arnie said I be back.

Absolutely nothing
Karen was friendly and efficient. Lots of little extras like fresh milk in the fridge and chocolates left each night. Breakfast was very good.

The host karen was lovely really helpful made my boyfriend birthday very special the hotel was nice and clean breakfast was amazing plenty off room in the bedroom with onsuite bathroom lounge to sit in to watch TV play pool etc with patio doors that goes into the garden which is all lit up at night the dining room is very spacious with plenty off options cereals fresh fruit etc and an amazing cooked breakfast will definitely be going back had an amazing stay thank you karen

We would definitely recommend Southbourne Villa for a stay. Really comfortable, clean, warm, spacious. This was all down to Karen - a truly remarkable host. Nothing was too much for her. So friendly - a lovely welcome, and such a hard worker dedicated to us having a good time. She offered us an upgrade to the room with a 4 poster bed - very nice - and went over/beyond our expectations. Breakfast was excellent, with loads of options incl gluten free and vegetarian. The room was immaculate and cleaned every day. The en-suite was good with a large shower. Karen offered a lot of advice on where to go, eat, local services, and even laid out a special space for us on our last night when we felt like a take away (in the dining room). There was free parking on site. The accommodation was a 10-15 minute walk into Torquay. 10 min to the beach. We had a great time and we would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Nothing, everything was perfect
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel at home. Karen was a excellent host. The rooms were clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable, your room was cleaned everyday. The breakfast was excellent, you had a load of choices. I would recommend the Southbourne Villa to anyone to stay there, excellent host, clean & tidy bed & breakfast, around 20 walk to centre of Torquay..

The location was very good with just a 15 minute walk to the front and close to bus stops, the breakfast was excellent with a varied and wide range of items and Karen was very attentive and a great host

A relaxing stay is a must for us. Nothing is too much trouble, as Karen has thought of everything in the service she provides. Substantial breakfast with all that you can possibly want. Obviously, the jacuzzi is a bonus when the seasons permit.

Karen is a fabulous host, friendly and attentive. The breakfast was delicious and the room, which we were upgraded to for free, was clean and very comfortable. The location is great, quiet, but within easy walking distance to everything. Really can't fault it. We will definitely be making a return visit.
