Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBefore I got there I got an email advising about a self check in system, which seemed to suggest that when I got there I wouldn't meet a person, but I would have to find my own way to my room. It said I would have to pick up my key from a key safe. Which actually didn't apply, because when I got there there was no key safe. I was very glad when my host appeared and welcomed me. Please don't send this email to your guests any more, as it is very off putting. The reason for paying the money for a 4 star hotel is that you are able to turn up when you like and be welcomed in to the hotel by a real person.
The decor was absolutely lovely, especially the breakfast room. The hotel had real character, A nice communal library downstairs where you could relax. The host (I've forgotten her name) was welcoming and friendly and keen to advise about what I should do during my stay, and where I could go to eat. As I was travelling alone this was a real bonus.

The proprietor Noorani was so kind, welcoming, and helpful. She is also an amazing cook! So lovely to be right in the heart of Dorchester. I really appreciated Noorani’s knowledge of the history of the town and region, which is fascinating.

United KingdomThere were builders onsite in the hallways painting/decorating when I visited (although they were considerate and helpful). I had to ask for certain breakfast items several times, but when it came it was all delicious and wonderful!
I really enjoyed my stay at Casterbridge. It is in a great location, walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on the high street. Friendly host who told me about the local area and history of the B&B. Room was very traditional but clean and comfortable. Lovely bath, tea and coffee, view over the highstreet, very comfortable bed and TV with Netflix. I would definitely consider staying here again if I am in the area, and would recommend to others. Thank you so much!

United KingdomGreat location, wonderful property. The room was very comfortable with a large double bed, two comfortable armchairs and a spacious ensuite. the owner and her staff cooked a delicious breakfast each morning with locally sourced produce. if you didn't want to eat out in the evening and just pick up a takeaway, you can just eat it in the dining room where breakfast is served which is a great option to have. It was very easy to check in and out and we would definitely stay here again. One of the best B&Bs I've ever stayed in !

United KingdomEntry is contactles with a key pad that I struggled with on the first evening when I arrived, a bit tired. It has an arrow suggesting it turns anticlockwise but I eventually realised that the text said to turn clockwise. It was easy after that. Water pressure in the shower on the second floor was a bit feeble.
The Casterbridge is an old Georgian town house on the Roman road that is the main spine of Dorchester, leading from the bridge over the Frome to Poundbury in the west. The interiors are spotlessly clean - indeed, guests are invited to remove their shoes - and well maintained in tones of white and green. My second floor room was at the front, up steep stairs, with a certain amount of traffic noise but not so much that I had to close the window or the secondary glazing and it was very quiet from midnight even with the window open. The bathroom was clean and quite spacious with soap, shampoo and so on provided, and a wall-mounted hair dryer. Everything was perfectly clean and well kept and the wifi was fast and easy to connect to. I only had muesli and toast for breakfast - with home made marmalade - but i could see nice cooked breakfasts going to other tables.

United KingdomThe main road runs through Dorchester and traffic is constant during the working week but calms down in the evening and night-time. Asking for a room to the rear away from from the road would be something I would ask for next time we visit. Car parking is about 150 yds away and there are only three spaces so reserve a space in good time. Four poster bed comfortable enough but mattress a bit high for my wife who has some mobility issues.
Ideal location if you want to be in the centre of Dorchester. Excellent choice of pubs, restaurants etc. Busy, buzzy small county town with good choice of shops including a Waitrose, local museums, all within walking distance. 17th C hotel has historic connections, with nicely decorated rooms, pretty rear garden with a conservatory to sit and eat breakfast. Breakfasts are freshly cooked and you are looked after in a friendly and hospitable fashion by the owners and staff.
