It has seen better days. The double room for single occupancy was spacious but in need of decoration. Furniture and carpets worn and everything generally neon need of refurbishment.

Central location, 10 minutes walk from the Railway Station and close to the Castle, Cathedral and on the High Street. Room rate was good value.

Room very hot when arrived as radiator on full and couldn't turn it off. Very noisy at night, Friday night wasn't so bad but Saturday was kept awake until after 1am due to noisy revellers in the street below. Refreshments could benefit with being on a tray to stop the wooden surface getting wet/damaged. Smell of cigarette smoke in corridor leading to room.

I was able to park my car for the duration of my stay. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Asked if radiator could be turned off as too hot, when I returned it was off and cooled down. Bed comfortable. Kettle and coffee/tea etc.

Good hotel for stays in historic Rochester Highstreet, with listed building and local access

There's no wifi available, which is a shame as it seems the TV's installed in the rooms do have functionality to connect to smart services like Netflix, but have no connection, something which could be easily remedied to provide some modern services. Accessories in the room are a kettle only (nice), but a hair dryer, desk lamp and USB sockets would be very welcomed editions, as coming from Europe and having forgotten to bring my UK adaptor, we had to turn on the TV and use the one USB on the back in order to charge our phones (our mistake, but most hotels provide lamps/alarm clocks or sockets with USB plugs these days). Some paint was peeling off the bathroom ceiling which is a shame as the bathroom otherwise looks like a modern renovation with very clean and nice amenities, although there were some serious cobwebs at the top of the window that are in need of cleaning. Finally, room 36 seems to be outside a pigeon nesting area, it seems netting has been put up to stop them, but they have found another way in, so every morning is awoken by a flutter of pigeon activity directly outside the window.

Perfect location for our trip. Easy to access and the accommodation overall is what you should expect for a historic building. The staff were very friendly and the room itself was clean. Late night access was available via the keys provided which allowed us to return late in the evening.

There was nothing bad about my stay. The hotel was looking a little dated/ worn on the inside and a fresh coat of paint could uplift it.

The staff were lovely. They were happy to take my bag for a period of time prior to check in and post check out. The room had loads of space and the view of the cathedral was amazing. Had a great nights sleep.

Bed to soft, but then this is personal preference. I still had a good night sleep, though.

Very close to train station as well as the castle and the cathedral. Property is on the High Street. I stayed for one night during the week. It was quiet even though on the High Street. I saw previous reviews where people complained about the noise from the High Street due to the bars and restaurants on the High Street, but as mentioned, this was not an issue for me. Towels and toiletries were provided. Room was clean. Heating worked. TV was in the room even though I did not use it. Kettle and tea, coffee etc provided. The building is old and in my opinion has a lot of character. Previous reviews complained of trip hazards due to old carpets in hallway, I did not find this to be true. I found the price reasonable for a one night stay in Rochester on the main High Street which is the heart of Rochester. I would stay there again if I came to Rochester.

There are no lifts in the property. The carpets hide the unevenness of the floors on the landings. During the week there is no option for breakfast. The finishing touches to the tiling in the bathroom were slapdash. The plumbing was noisy. I struggled to fill the kettle up with the sink being quite small. There was frayed carpet around the edges of the room and under the desk. Although there was secondary glazing, the room was still quite noisy with the sound of the trains and rubbish lorries. Once the main street gates to the property were shut during the evening, being on crutches made it nearly impossible to go out, as the pedestrian door required you to step over a high threshold.

My double room was on the first floor and it looked out over the High Street. The extra large bed was comfy. At least the electric heater worked.

Towels were not really big enough for a dry off after a shower, there was no-one at reception when i arrived and following the instructions to ring the bell / phone divert calls etc no-one answered and i had to go over the road to a restaurant where the receptionist was working to get checked in. there receptionist was good and left the restaurant straight away to check me in (but perhaps i shouldn't have had to do that!)

bed was good, comfortable and the room was clean

The decor is tired and shabby. The stairs leading up to the bathroom in my room had an uneven lip that needed marking out to warn of trip hazard. Carpeted areas in the hallways have hidden trip hazards. Wooden window frame rotten in places and the side window wouldn't close securely. The small top window didn't close at all. The window was on a level that allowed outsiders to have gained easy entry if they had so chosen to. There was guests smoking in their bedroom and this caused the hotel to be evacuated very late in the evening when everyone was in bed. Although the fire alarm went off, the staff were slow to ensuring all guests got out safely. The staff openly argued with the guests they believed were to blame in front of other guests and the situation got very ugly.

The bed was soft and comfy. Some of the towels were soft and fluffy.
