Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI would have liked the garden to be completely enclosed so that I could have let my dog out in the garden.
Lots of room for everyone to have their own space. Shared area was large but felt cosy.

United KingdomBeautiful property and outside area. Also massively grateful to the host for being relaxed about the Sunday checkout time, which allowed us to have a lovely family meal on Sunday morning after packing up, something we wouldn't have got to do if we would have had to be out at 10.30/11. Such a gorgeous house!

United KingdomNothing much to grumble about really. It was nice that a couple of days worth of cleaning things, teas, coffees etc were available. Personally, I'd have liked some condiment sachets too, but that's my fault for forgetting the tomato sauce!
We stayed at Virginia Barn for a 60th birthday celebration with three generations and a dog. There was plenty of space next to the barn to park three cars, which made unpacking easy. It's in a peaceful location with some good walks. The nearby road felt safe to walk along as it's 30mph and not busy. Although the barn was very spacious, it was homely and everyone felt relaxed and comfortable. Lovely big, well-equipped kitchen and it was great having three bathrooms, with two of them being ensuite. There were three very large sofa's and a dining table for eight, so everyone was always able spread out and sit down. We liked having a second table and chairs so that we could leave a jigsaw out the whole time. Also we liked that the furniture, although lovely, was not so perfect and precious that we'd be scared to touch it. The wooden flooring was great with having children and a dog with us. And the baby grand piano was a bonus. We played Happy Birthday to Gramps!

United KingdomFew little things can be mentioned, although they didn't spoil our holiday. The pans in the kitchen can do with replacing. We didn't need them so it didn't really affect our experience. Some marks on bed linen, however it was obvious that they were washed. The double bedroom downstairs was a bit chilli, however the bedding was really thick and warm so once tucked in bed this was not an issue.
Lots of space for our large family. Kitchen very well equipped with everything we needed. Lovely decor throughout. Beautiful surroundings, quiet, remote location, excellent for a family celebration. The downstairs bedroom was perfect for our mother who has some mobility issues. Very comfortable beds/mattresses and thick, warm duvets. Excellent communication and easy check in and check out. We thoroughly enjoyed the late Sunday check out. This made all the difference after a late Saturday night celebrating our son's birthday. We will definitely recommend this property and will be coming back.

United KingdomThe heating is fixed to suit the time of year by the owner and cannot be changed by the guests. Of course, the temperature outside varies considerably, so it meant we had to control the inside temperature by opening doors and turning heating off when it became unbearably hot inside. Other than a few things like hooks for hanging up towels in the bathrooms so they can be reached easily when getting out of the shower, and new frying pans (current ones not usable - non stick surfaces scratched and peeling), it’s a very pleasant place to stay. lots of space and good location.
This is our third visit to the property. We like that it’s a good size plus find it really convenient that friends can stay in the barn adjoining barn (Duleep Singh Barn). It means we can do a joint holiday but each family has their own space. We love having the piano and the large dining table.

Virginia Barn is a stunning, clean, comfortable, huge space which provided the setting for my mums 80th birthday. The barn restoration is exceptional and we felt so lucky to be in such luxury. The seven of us had the most wonderful time together, we had everything we needed and the grounds and nearby Bury St Edmunds and Bressingham Gardens were lovely to visit. The late check out on a Sunday is a real bonus and gave us so much more time to explore.
