Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWifi was a little patchy at times
Incredible waterfront location near a little pocket of great bars, bakeries and cafes. Our room was spacious, bright and beautiful. Incredible value for money, one of our favourite spots on our travels around Guatemala

United StatesMikaso has such a beautiful view right on the lake, and it’s nice and quiet as it’s a short walk from the main part of town. The restaurant on the top floor is amazing too! The staff was all lovely and very helpful. They have kayaks for rent which was one my favorite things we did while in Atitlán.

United StatesIt’s not that we disliked this but just a tip for future guests. It was a little confusing the first time we visited where it was located but many people pointed us in the right direction of where to go so just ask if you get lost on your way there :) the second day we had a much better concept of the town and where to go.
We really enjoyed our stay at Mikaso. The staff was so helpful. The location was nice as it was not too close from the crowded tourist area but easily walkable to the pier. The view was amazing. We just spent time on the porch and looked out at the lake for hours. The restaurant on top had really good food too for a night in.

CanadaThe wifi didn’t work in my room (room 14 with the bunk beds), but did in the lobby and some areas of the terrace. I had a hard time finding the hotel, there are a lot of winding roads with very little directional signage which can make it challenging, even when using google maps. And my spanish isn’t great so when I asked for help, I didn’t quite understand the directions they gave me. The rooms are fairly modest, but clean and comfortable!
The location is absolutely beautiful. It is right on the water with a huge terrace looking out over the lake and the mountains. There are trees and flowers and plants everywhere! It is so lush and has a real “indoor/outdoor” feel. The entryway is a pathway with flowers and plants creating a natural arch the whole way down. Stunning! The staff are all super friendly and helpful, especially Rene who works at nights. He helped me a lot with my Spanish and is just an overall amazing and kind person. The staff at the hotel restaurant, El Gato Perdido, are also super nice! The restaurant is on the rooftop with amazing views and possibly the best pizzas I’ve ever had. They provide a large, shared kitchen with fridges where you can keep your leftovers. And plenty of water jugs with agua pura are available in the kitchen, lobby and second floor. Be sure to check out El Barrio down the street to watch sports and meet other travellers and get a book or two from the Book Nook right next to Mikaso. This is possibly the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in and it was around $35 CAD / night. Wild!

United StatesYou just need to be ok with bugs in Guatemala in general. This place had very few but when you're on a lake, you'll see one or two here and there.
We loved this place! The manager Daniel is a sweetheart and the view from the upstairs and downstairs balconies are insaneeee. My mom and I woke up at 5am to watch sunrise - highly recommend! Its an authentic, no frill kind of place where you're immersed in magnificent nature.

United Kingdomslightly at the edge of town so quiet but a very short walk away to the centre, passing a great little bakery, our room had a most wonderful view of the lake and a private sitting area to enjoy the view. The communal kitchen was spotless and furnished with any kind of utensil you might need or want and also with free water refill. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and pleasant looking. The best thing, I saved for last. The staff there is just extraordinary. Reception staff was informative and very friendly and I would like to thank René in particular for all the anecdotes and all the help. The biggest thank, though, goes to the manager of the hotel. When he heard that one of our party had taken sick very late in the evening, he immediately offered to go on his motorbike to the local all night pharmacy and bring back some medecine for us. He saved our holiday. Btw, we loved all the cats around.

United StatesBit of a walk to the center, almost better to kayak to the other side, and the bathrooms are ever so slightly dirtier than your average hotel.
Amazing place right by the water, they offer cheap kayaks for rent and an amazing view over the lake in a better location for beauty and quiet than the center of town. Absolutely gorgeous walk to the hotel, and it is a steal for what you pay.
