Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandThe carpets throughout the hotel could do with a shampoo. Coming out from the restaurant particucilarly they are very sticky and dirty looking. Also, some help with bags would have been nice, We were in 336, a lovely spaacious room, but my mother has a heart contition and found the steps up and down very exhausting.
The staff were exceptional, very helpful and generous with their time

IrelandJust a little thing, the steps between the split floors can be a little problem if you have a heart condition, but I very much understand it's to do with the age of the building.
Location and the staff were excellent.

IrelandThe first room we were given was a 'forest room, which I chose as I love garden and forest vistas, rather than sea views.. The description is a bit deceiving, as the hotels' flat roofs, air vents, and air conditioning units are what you mostly see, with trees at the back! Our first room was 111, and I asked for a transfer as the noise from the air conditioning unit was too loud. The room was also tiny, much smaller than you would expect for the price charged! This room had two single beds. I spoke to reception, and they immediately changed our room to 309, which was a forest room again, but was a decent size and much quieter. It was a lovely room, so we were very happy. You are also provided with bath robes and slippers, which is a nice touch. I would not describe the hotel as a luxury hotel, only because of the furnishings in the rooms etc, they are not of a high standard, but perfectly usable. We really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay at Eccles again. It was lovely. 8/10
The views are amazing. It's a great location to stay at while visiting different attractions on the Beara Peninsula. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable, and the rain shower was great, with an extra shower head that you could hold in your hand. The food was lovely, especially the fish and chips in the bar. The verandah restaurant overlooking the water was beautiful, the food was good, although a tad luke warm.

IrelandI don't think this place will meet the expectation of a four start hotel , maybe 3 , taking in consideration that this is an old building there are still things that can be improved to make it in to a great 4 star hotel - Room - the furniture in the room is outdated and could do with a clean - Spa - sauna and hot tub are not included, you need to pay for them - Hotel - the hotel needs a deep clean and at least a carpet change as the wear on it is quite extensive, overall the hotel didn't gave me a nice feeling that you would expect from a 4 star hotel - Restaurant - service could be improved with attention to serving, while the staff was nice and pleasant i had to wait for a good while for my chips to be brought with my steak while desert took at least 15 minutes ...
Location is the main seller for this property, room was clean and bathroom recently renovated , reception was helpful , good TV reception, decent breakfast , services seemed quite good and staff helpful

IrelandThe hotel offers a vegan menu, which is a bonus. However, the evening meal and breakfast dishes were very disappointing, if not inedible. Pickled onion for breakfast was a step too far!

South AfricaWhile I expected a little more from the food it was good. My fillet was not rare. When I asked whether we could have time between courses I was told that this could not be guaranteed???? Parts of the hotel are shabby. Our bathroom did not have a fan.
Beautiful view from the room. Definitely book a room with a sea view. Garnish Restaurant is elegant. Wonderful welcome from staff at front desk staff. Excellent breakfast.

IrelandNeeds a little TLC here & there......paint on doors, clean carpet on floor 3 outside lift, the pad on the window seat in the bar was FILTHY, needs to be replaced. Ate in bar, food fine. But, we failed to get the attention of the barman/waiter once main course was finished. Eventhough we had decided to get dessert we gave up after 15 mins of trying to get his attention to get the menu so went to bar & paid our bill. The following morning g the bill for our room was pushed under the door before went down for breakfast. I've stayed in lots of hotels all over Ireland, Europe and the US & never saw this happen before. I thought it was quite rude & felt that I wasn't trusted. Also, the receptionist had taken our Credit Card on check in so why did they need to push the bill under the door????
Food very good. Location great. Facilities very good.

IrelandI didn't like that it was not sound proof, heard someone snoring and we couldn't sleep. I went to sleep in another room with my daughter but could still hear it. A staff member was empathetic and I suppose there is nothing he could do. He was attentive to the problem and I commend him for that. I didn't like that the Pub could not accommodate a table of 8 and the manager told me to book for the restaurant, which was double the price. ( It would be great if one could see the menu prices online!) The chairs in the lobby are also not arranged for bigger groups, so we could not sit together as a family of 8. Breakfast was nice, staff were FANTASTIC and friendly and we overlooked the rather dated looking buffet(some new equipment is advised!) and perhaps having some milk next to the coffee urn is a good idea. On the whole, it was lovely. The family enjoyed the spa very much(outdoors) and it is highly recommended! The view was great too, and the atmosphere was authentically Irish and that was what we had hoped for! We also liked that you could purchase some jewelry as souvenirs in the hotel.
The rooms were very beautiful and well decorated. My elderly parents were in the room suitable for a wheelchair and it was ABSOLUTELY wonderful and spacious and well designed and they LOVED it and I will recommend it to other wheelchair users.

IrelandUnfortunately the lift was out of order meant long stair journeys.
Loved the view and the spacious room for three adults, though the ensuite bathroom was a bit small. The staff were excellent, particularly the restaurant staff.
