Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenIf you searching for an totally unique place then you can stop search now. Location is excellent. The host Margret is excellent. The house is on of a kind. If you also consider that you have access to the car then even the price is excellent. Just go there and you will understand.

United StatesNot a negative - just an fyi that the beds (1 queen, 2 twins) are upstairs in a loft - accessible with some narrow/steep stairs. Perfect for single 20-somethings but perhaps less ideal for older individuals or people with disabilities.
Vaktahouse is the best rental experience I have ever had. Vakta is an adorable little cottage right in the center of Reykjavik - we could basically walk everywhere in the city. Margret is super helpful and goes to great lengths to ensure an excellent experience for guests, from a list of restaurant recommendations to a bottle of wine and fresh bread on the table when we walked in. We were four 20-something friends who spent most of our time out exploring, so for us the amount of space was perfect. The car was an added bonus too, and was great for our day trips to blue lagoon & the golden circle. Overall, we are so happy we stumbled upon this little place and I would strongly recommend to family and friends!

United StatesThere's nothing we didn't like. One thing to be aware of is that the sleeping area is up a narrow spiral staircase in a loft with low ceilings in part. We thought it was comfortable, but it would be tricky for people with mobility issues.
Margret was an extremely warm and thoughtful host. She went the extra mile on everything to make our stay special, from a delicious welcome spread of pastries and snacks to promptly fixing the problem when the wifi briefly went out to giving us great recommendations of where to go. And Vaktahouse is beautifully decorated, charming, and cozy, yet also with all modern conveniences one would want. Being able to use the car (automatic transmission) that comes with the house was a very helpful bonus.

United StatesIf there was one thing I could say, perhaps more space for three people. But that would be silly considering the history and charm of this gorgeous little house! It is perfect for two people.
The welcome upon arrival was wonderful, especially for travel-weary guests. Incredible pastries and more hit the spot and was such an unexpected pleasure! The home is perfectly appointed, so charming and with a rich history. Everything you need is there and it is clear that Margret has put a lot of thought into making sure that her guests comfortable, from fresh towels to large shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower, coffee, and so on. And of course, the location is perfect. It is close to everything but still on a quiet street where you hear little besides the fresh Icelandic breeze. Margret is a superb hostess, and she went out of her way to make sure that we had an amazing time in Iceland!

GermanyThe house is small but we expected that. We had great family bonding because of the coziness. It would be nice if the washer also had a dryer but we found out that the heating tubes works just as well in drying our laundry. Overall, really didn’t have any issues. We loved staying in the property.
It’s a beautiful property! Despite being constructed in the 1840s, the renovations and upgrades has all modern necessities and comforts in it. The location is perfect. The small garden is pretty. The complimentary car that goes with the rental is very clean, runs without problems and is automatic. The welcome was beautiful with fresh flowers, fresh bread and pastries from the local bakery, a bottle of wine, a Brie, fruit basket, skyr and cold beverages in the fridge, etc.

United States(ignore Booking's sad face emoji! replace with "thinking" emoji!) I would suggest bringing an eye mask for stays during the midnight sun, as the house doesn't get completely dark, with all the lovely windows. And while not near the main, busy streets, there is still some light vehicle/motorcycle noise. Definitely manageable, and worth it, given the city's easy access. (Helpful hint! Keep your luggage downstairs by the hangers, not up by the beds!)
I loved staying in this small, historic house, in the old west side of Reykjavik. The house is impeccable: finishes, paint, detailing. It was nice to have the option of using the available car (I ended up not using it). Bonus! receiving welcome treats from our hostess, after a long red eye flight! The house also has great suggestions for activities, food in the city. All is accessible with short walks. I will miss unlatching the little gate to get in! Just wonderful!

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing.
Absolutely everything - you could not find anywhere that tops it! A very special historic home with a stunning and cosy interior in the best location in Reykjavik. Every single detail was carefully considered and created by the wonderful host, Margret. As well as the home itself, she provided her very nippy car, a wonderful welcome with pastries, wine, tulips, bread, cheese, milk etc and was there for us with anything we needed throughout our trip. It absolutely made our first stay in Iceland perfect.

United StatesNothing. Every part was lovely.
We LOVED our stay. They accommodated us checking in early very last minute because we arrived to the city more quickly than we expected. They had wine and pastries when we arrived, with a well stocked kitchen. Access to the car was amazing, and we loved the location of the property. Don't even get me started on the decor too, it was homey and beautiful and so cozy. It was such a sweet touch to our visit to Reykjavik - HIGHLY recommend staying here!!!

United StatesNot a personal complaint but sleeping arrangements would be difficult for someone with limited mobility. Stairs are steep and narrow and beds below knee level.
Kids loved the hidden bed at the top of the stairs. Perfectly located an only a few minutes walk from stores and restaurants. Host was friendly and very accommodating allowed us to store luggage for a few hours beyond checkout time.
