The hotel needs renovation and refurbishment. It is old and could be better in terms of condition in relevance to its four-star status.

The WiFi was weak and I do not like having to go to a web page to sign on. The hotel hallways need to be re-carpeted. The wallpaper in the room and the public hallways needs to be replaced or removed. The faucets for the shower, bidet, and sink do not work very well as it is difficult to get a balance between hot and cold.

The location in front of the plaza and adjacent to the old town was very good. The breakfast was excellent and the service at breakfast very well organized. Parking within the building was reasonably priced and it was unusual in that there was a particular spot assigned. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

Outdated furniture and rooms need a make over. Wallpaper was coming from the wall. Also not nice when there are vagabonds staying around the building.

Although the hotel was very clean, the hallways and guest rooms were showing signs of wear and tear. Peeling wall paper, stained and buckled carpets and torn draperies. It is definitely in need of a update.

I arrived in Catania after traveling for 20 hours only to find the hotel I had booked and had a confirmed reservation, had cancelled it and I had no where to stay. I found the Mercure Excelsior on your site, booked it right away and head there. The Staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Very nice Breakfast Buffet as well. The location of the hotel is excellent.

Hotel itself needs a renovation. I don't know how do hotels of this magnitude remain the 4 stars rating. Times have changed and for these days I'm not sure if it deserves even 2/3 stars. At first glance all perfect, when you take a second look it's not so clean and tidy anymore.

Nice location. Hotel is grand and spacious, very nice staff. It has the hotel-vibe to it which is hard to find in Catania. Room was spacious.

The stuff is very nice but for a 4 star hotel it defo needs an update on furnishings. The water coming out of the faucet makes noice, the breakfast was not vast given that it is a 4 star hotel, the wall paper was peeling off in the bathroom....so all in all next time I will opt for a bnb as I had nothing better. Bed was very comfortable and although the hotel is an eyesore it is clean! Once again the receptionists were very nice and helpful

The breakfast ended too early, and i feel that if you are on holiday, you dont want to have to get up at 8am or so to get breakfast as it ends a 9.30. This should be extended to atleast like 10.30 or 11am.

The whole quality of everything was alright, And above my expectations. And the fact that they could have our room ready much before the check in time was lovely. Wonderful staff and overall a good experience
