How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It could have been a bit cleaner and the bathroom didn’t have enough toilet paper.

No shelves in bathroom to put your toiletry bag
Room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. We did not meet the host, but she was in contact with us the whole time enquiry if we needed anything, which was great.

Fantastic location. The manager was extremely helpful, sending us a ton of recommendations and tips to make our stay perfect. The apartment is nice, clean, large, with everything you could possibly need. Good value for money.

Not enough explanations on how to have the cooking knobs work, not a lot of coffee and no olive oil or vinegar, no way to turn off the bathroom radiator.
Very reactive host through Booking he allowed us to come one hour earlier which we really appreciated. Very nice flat and building right in the heart of the city in a quiet street.

Great room with a good kitchen, including kettle and coffee machine, really good air con, lovely bathroom with nice soaps. Mattia our host was super helpful and also arranged for us to leave our luggage in the room before check-in time. The location was good, allowing us to enjoy the wonderful city of Trieste easily by foot.

Parking is not available at the property, so you have to figure that out on your own, but it is possible to find parking.
Dog-friendly, Beautiful new apartment in the old town. Modern and super clean with a small kitchen, and there is an elevator in the building which is a perk. We didn’t really have any contact with the staff, so not much to report, but it was an easy, uncomplicated booking.

The room design is a bit unconventional, but it is a matter of taste...
Perfect location in the downtown, good nearby parking possibility at a nearby public underground garage; unstaffed check-in was smooth, and our local contact Mattia was very quick and attentive in repairing some minor defects. Our room was on the uppermost floor with nice view over the rooftops.

Everything was truly perfect. Nothing to complain about.
The location is simply the best, it is a stone’s throw from the most important and famous attractions. Mattia, our host was so helpful with preliminary information, he was keeping one of his eyes on us to provide the most and the best of him for a convenient and priceless hospitality. He recommended the most friendly bars within reach and with discounts for our truly Italian and unforgettable breakfast including the initial coffee made by heart.

- Internet did not work practically at all in our room (no WiFi range) and it was not fixed during our stay. - Shower is so tiny that you can barely rotate under it. If you are a "plus size" person you might have trouble even getting in at all. - There is only one socket around the bed and only one night stand on one side to charge mobile. - Heater in the bathroom can be accidentally turned on by trying to switch the hairdryer socket and it has no thermostat so you can burn easily as it heats to extreme temperatures.
- Location is just fantastic! Very close to the center, places to eat, cafes, yet very quiet. - Building is fresh with modern amenities such as elevator - Owner is very responsive

Super location in the center of Triest. Very nice and cosy apartment. Easy to find a parking place. The owner is very helpful and responsive. We would very much recommend this place!

The wifi wasn’t available. The bathroom is quite small and tight, and some space to store a makeup bag and toiletries would be great. Other than that, everything was great!
The apartment is very new and modern, the beds are super comfortable, the location is great and the building is very modern and has an elevator. Ihre location is quite central and there’s a direct bus from the train station. We really loved our stay!

Very sparsely furnished. It’s called an apartment but there no microwave, no tv, limited cups & glasses etc, lack of lighting other than pure white ceiling lights, no soft seating. Coffee machine but no coffee capsules (for €100 a night, it wouldn’t take much to leave 1/2 dozen capsules for guests). Check in & check out all good. I did not like the 6-8 messages I was sent…especially not the ones asking for a review score of 10!!!
Very central, new & mostly clean. Comfortable bed & pillows.

Better sink.
The location is perfect. Right down the street is the start of the action that all tourists want. And at the top of the street is a really fun are for coffees in the morning and aperitivos at night. And a grocery nearby too.
