Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThere was no soap in the bathroom. Restaurant just outside closes early, the other restaurant along the beach was closed for private function and only serves fish, so a little out of the way to get to a restaurant
The castle is beautiful and right on the beach

ItalyNo bath soap and shampoos but understandable since it hostel it’s understandable. No guarded luggage deposit area, you can leave your luggage in a corner near the reception but the space is open and it is not guarded when the receptionist is not around.
Free parking, kind and welcoming staffs, and security guards. Well ventilated and clean premises. Definitely the mini castle they built for the cats inside the castle! :)

Beautiful castle turned into a hotel and museum. Learn about the history of the place you are staying, take a dip in the sea. And the airport is 30 minutes away.

United StatesSuch an amazing place - by the sea, in a historic setting, with beautiful grounds, and really interesting museums. The coffee shop on site had great coffee and pastries. The staff was very friendly and the room very spacious, clean and comfortable. We appreciate the simplicity of this place and the quiet setting. Hope to be back some day…

CanadaIt is a 'hostel', so decor is a bit spartan. Coffee is from a machine in a coomon room. Good facilities like plates and a cork screw available in common room also... All makes sense for a hostel.
Located within a castle, wonderful setting, windows looks out on the waves crashing. Can tour all through the castle, included with room, and get a discount on the museum. Village next door is lovely, with beautiful trees, shops and pizzaria, and pretty beach. Great alternative to boring airport hotel, and great value even with rental car to get there.

South AfricaNo coffee station in the room. You have to go to the communal kitchen to get your first cup of coffee.
We loved the spacious room with balcony looking over the ocean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The coffee shop outside is lovely and affordable. The venue is close to the train station, so easy walk. Easy access to the beach. Beautiful architecture. Beautiful surroundings.

CanadaIt's a hostel, do not expect a star-rated hotel. Everything is a bit basic.
The Castle is uniquely located directly on the beach. The sound from the waves breaking right in front of it makes you think you're on the ocean. The castle is historic and interesting. The staff were very friendly. Parking was free. A free beach is directly next door, and there is a simple beachfront restaurant.

ItalyNot a problem, but it would have been good to know that there was no soap in room. Other than the vending machine, not many open stores in S. Severa this time of year.
What a treasure a short train ride from Rome...especially this time of year.

IndonesiaThe gate of the castle officially closes at 23 but we can always ring a bell, they don't have a breakfast service so that's something to think about in the morning, the nearby restaurant opens at midday though.
The location is amazing next to the beach, the room view heads directly both to the sea and the garden, the toilet is quite clean, the staff speaks limited English but very friendly and helpful, the room size isn't as big as in the picture but decent enough for the price. There's a really good seafood restaurant by the beach.

United KingdomIt's important to come prepared - bring soap and cutlery! Otherwise, the kitchen is quite well- equipped and former occupants had left the basics like salt and oil, so it was only necessary to bring the food we'd eat during our stay. Santa Severa is pretty dead off-season with lots of restaurants closed.
Stunning room with beautiful views - it was really quite wonderful to stay in this castle. The staff couldn't have been kinder and more accomodating, the room and kitchen was also pristinely clean . We also enjoyed visiting the museums on site, wandering around the castle - full of the sublime scent of orange blossom in early April. The laundry facilities and beautiful kitchen make this the perfect pit-stop as you explore Italy.
