Decent accommodation at a great price.

I traveled for a conference and I stayed at Hotel Portacavana as a practical option. This is no luxury hotel, but it was very affordable, and was comfortable and clean. Also, Christian (staff) was very helpful and kind. I would definitely consider staying there if I travel to Trieste for work and need practical accommodation.

Great cute place to stay in a good location but the heaters need maintenance.

The heaters made really loud clicking noises thru the day and night and woke me up. I had to turn them off in the middle of the night.

Very comfy room, all the necessary amenities including kettle and mini fridge.

A good location for the price and for only needing a place to sleep, it serves its purpose.

The shower isn't attached to the room but I think I was the only one to use it so I never had problems waiting for someone to be done. I will say, since I went there in the winter time the shower room can get quite cold!

I enjoyed the room, the aesthetic and architecture were a lot older which I appreciated, and there was ample space for a lone traveler and the bed was very comfortable.

I felt there could be more light in the room, I wanted to read and there wasn't enough light during the night. Other than that, an amazing place!

Location was great, very close to the train station and main attractions. The staff very gentle, bed was very comfortable, and the shower was amazing.

An old Italian hotel with character

For some the flights of stairs up may be an issue and the shared bathroom but I don’t mind the exercise and everyone was considerate with their time.

Hotel Portacavana has character with its painted wardrobe and art. My room was a single but had everything such as tea and coffee making, small very quiet fridge, desk, wardrobe and comfortable bed. Christian provides a warm welcome and information on local events. He is very quick to respond when there are any problems. Loved the exposed beans and history of the place.

Smell of Smoking downstairs flows up into the room. No Lift, my room on 3rd floor. with heavy luggage, i cannot managed. So i just backpack up and left my luggage at 1st floor reception. Christian is kind to bring up for me the next day. But i have to struggle to bring it down because Christian is not at hotel too early at 8am.

is in a nice historical building with nice antique furniture. Spring bed can be a bit uncomfortable for some. But i am fine, slept well, maybe i am so tired after the long train ride. when i arrived, coincided with Barcolana- a big event here in Trieste, everywhere, and just below are pubs with DJ playing good music. is nice! The next morning, woke up by nice street instrumental music too.. is ok and nice for me.

There was no air conditioning in the room and we were in August; there was a ventilator however, which, for a one star hotel, I can accept. The bathroom was really tiny and you had to be quite slim to enter!

The hotel is in the very city centre of Trieste close to all main cultural buildings an social entertainment places. Staff was great and helpful and the room clean and not noisy. Comfortable bed and good room.

Cute little place in the trendy part of Trieste

One side, the side I was on, opens to a noisy street. Because there is no a/c I had yo keep the windows open. I have a great pair of ear plugs and that helps. I've stayed here before so I know what it's like and I choose to stay again. However, in the middle of summer, I'd pay more for a/c

Location is now the "trendy" part of town, with lots of good locals hops for food, coffee, forgotten things. The decor is sweet and old fashioned. And of course the price is right.

Even before my arrival, I received all the information I needed to gain access to the room. Additional information with dinner recommendations and timetables for excursions etc. Kettle in the room (also an umbrella). All in all, a very nice, hard-working landlord who addressed everything openly and honestly.

Didn't have any air conditioning which was detailed before booking. This would only be a problem in the hottest weeks. At the beginning of June the temperature was ok.

Absence of air conditioner in the summer could be a problem during the night, but if you have booked here you already know because it's all declared in the description of the room.

Great place to stay when in Trieste! Yes, it is loud, but don‘t forget you stay in the City Center. What do you expect? Birds singing and rivers floating? Just take something with you to protect you from the noise and you will be rewarded with a really nice Place and a very friendly staff!

The floor and some other surfaces were a bit dusty. Nothing I couldn't handle, though. The street where my window opened to was rather busy and there was no air conditioning so I had to keep that window open.

The guy at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. He even let me leave my luggage in the hotel after I checked out and provided me with the entry code so that I can come and go as a please, even though I was no longer a guest. This was a big help for me since I spent another full day in the city. The location is also great. Everything I needed was in walking distance. The bathroom was clean and well-equipped.
