The air conditioning system was a bit noisy

Pleasant atmosphere: no stress, polite responses, happy and friendly people. Nice to have breakfast items available - no limit to what you eat (but of course no "exporting"!)

Other guests opening and closing their room doors in the middle of the night woke me a few times but otherwise can't complain.

The Prospect is nothing less than a shimmering jewel by the sea offering a quaint and intriguing step back in time. There is a magical ambience that ensues from the moment of check-in through check-out, and a welcoming graciousness and accommodating spirit that exudes from all staff members in every area. The cleanliness of the rooms and shared spaces is second to none!! The bathrooms are huge and the kitchen is well stocked for cooking. The people, long stay, are extraordinary additions to the experience. I've yet to behold such kindness, respect for everyone, and a polite, consistent sensitivity toward others' well being. There is a community here, and if you want, you are welcome to be a part of it. There is no lack of stimulating conversation. The restaurant/pub downstairs offers a selection of hearty menu items and drinks, including speciality coffees and teas, etc. I ordered a spiced latte and have never tasted anything so delicious. This town is a little utopia - everything is just precious and within walking distance. There are many lovely types of shops with beautiful things, coffee places, markets, etc. Something for everyone, and a great place to just walk and enjoy the cool bay breeze. Thank you for preserving an important part of history, not only architecturally, but in old fashioned, down to earth, customer service and care. ❤️

The establishment is both a pub/restaurant and a place to stay, with a mix of longer-term "residents" and short-term stayers "guests" like me. The atmosphere is friendly, but people are not nosey. There are plenty of bathrooms which are communally shared, containing toilet, washbasin and shower ("three-quarter bathrooms"). There is no "bathroom queue"! :-) The laundry facility is paid for using coins and the responsibility is the guest's. Clean, effective washing and drying. Breakfast is available in the communal kitchen from the fridge marked "Guests". This suited me fine as I had to go to meetings early (6am for a 7am start) and thus could have my breakfast when I returned. :-) One hint of what the atmosphere is like was the response of the owner, Barry O'Shaugnessy, to my lugging my suitcase up the narrow outside stairway which serves as the fire escape and the closest entrance from the car park: he suggested he carry the suitcase for me! Much appreciated!

The location was great as right near shops. We used the Prospect due to its locality to where we needed to be. The accommodation was very tidy and clean. There was some renovations happening eg painting so they are always improving the hotel. The rooms were very tidy and had been updated. The beds / pillows were so comfy. The shared bathrooms were very tidy and clean and they had been renovated also. We didn't use the kitchen facilities but they looked clean. They had a fridge to help yourself to brekky if you wanted which comprised of bread, cereal, condiments, tea and coffee etc whenever you wanted. The staff were friendly and showed us all around. Only thing is if you are going to be out after closing make sure that you get the pin to the door to go up to your room - we didn't get the pin so lucky there was a back entrance we could use to access our room!

The location was right in the middle of Howick so shops were close by. The lovely balcony looking over the street was nice. The room was clean and had complimentary water and orange juice in fridge. The noise from the pub downstairs wasn’t loud. The publican was friendly to.
