Dublin Castle
Dublin Castle is the heart of historic Dublin. In fact the city gets its name from the Black Pool - 'Dubh Linn' which was on the site of the present Castle garden.
Dame Street
Newman House
Newman House consists of two Georgian houses containing examples of Dublin’s finest 18th century plasterwork. Dating to circa 1740, number 85 has recently been fully restored and is a vivid example of the work of the architect Richard Castle and the plasterwork of the Lafrancini brothers. Number 86 dates to circa 1765 and contains plasterwork in the Irish rococo style. Both houses later became the location of the Catholic University, the original home of UCD. Cardinal John Henry Newman was the first rector of the University and later both the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins and James Joyce were associated with the building.
85-86 St. Stephen's Green
War Memorial Gardens
These gardens are one of the most famous memorial gardens in Europe. They are dedicated to the memory of 49,400 Irish soldiers who died in the 1914-1918 war. The names of all the soldiers are contained in the granite bookrooms in the Gardens. These gardens are not only a place of remembrance but are also of architectural interest and of great beauty. Designed by the famous architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869-1944), they are one of four Gardens in this country designed by him. The others being Heywood Gardens, Lambay Island and those in Howth Castle. Sunken rose gardens, herbaceous borders and extensive tree planting make for an enjoyable visit to the Gardens in any season.
South Circular Road/Con Colbert Road, Islandbridge
Moore Street Market
rom Monday to Saturday dozens of traders set up their stalls, many of them specializing in fruit, vegetables and flowers. Prices tend to be reasonable to low and the typical Dublin banter is free. The permanent shops next to the stalls range from Irish family butchers to German supermarket giants "Lidl", with dozens of small Asian and African shops filling the gaps. Get everything from bratwurst to sea cucumbers and poppadoms in one short street!

Dublin Castle is in the medieval part of town, it's easy to spend a few hours in there. The current castle was built in late 1700's, is in a very good condition and it's worth a visit.
Ardgillion Castle and grounds in the Fingal area is a short train journey from Dublin and is well worth a visit it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited!!
