Situated in a tranquil area in Gifu Region, a 52-minute drive away from JR Takayama Station, Mozumo boasts a hot-spring bath and rooms decorated with modern Japanese interior. Everything was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, we felt wonderful—the staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our entire stay. The stay itself was the highlight of our trip to Japan. We’re already in another city and still keep thinking about it! The room was very spacious, the beds were amazing, and the little terrace—plus the private onsen—was just unbeatable. Imagine soaking in the onsen while looking out into the forest. It’s incredibly calming. We also recommend trying the local breakfast and dinner (book in advance); it’s a truly exceptional culinary experience. Thank you so much for the best stay in the world! We would love to come back.

Το Kawakamiya Kasuitei απέχει 5 λεπτά οδικώς από το σταθμό Gero και προσφέρει παραδοσιακά δωμάτια ιαπωνικού στιλ με δάπεδο τατάμι (πλεκτό άχυρο) και ιαματικά λουτρά στην περιοχή Gero Onsen. Staff was exceptionally kind and understanding despite our limited language skills. The outdoor onsen was very comfortable, and the room was wonderful to stay in.

Το Guest House & Cafe SOY περιβάλλεται από πλούσια βλάστηση και απέχει 15 λεπτά με το λεωφορείο από το σταθμό JR Takayama. Our host went out of his way to make our stay the best. He drove us around, made reservations, shipped our suitcases, and was always available to help us out. The breakfasts were both beautiful and delicious. The property is very special and was clearly cared for in a loving way. We couldn’t ask for a better host than Tai.

This is my 3rd visits to Takayama this year during different seasons and this trip is mainly as a base for visiting Kamikochi. I booked this inn away from city center to experience the hospitality of a small family-run inn and the dining experience with wine pairing. Auberge Hida no Mori didn't disappoint 🙏🤗

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. Our stay at Sumiyoshi Ryokan was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the hosts made us feel incredibly welcome with matcha tea and delicious cookies. The ryokan itself is a beautiful traditional Japanese building, offering a warm and authentic atmosphere. Dinner was absolutely outstanding—one of the best meals we had in Japan! The dishes kept coming, each one more delicious than the last, and we ended the meal with homemade plum wine prepared by the owner. Afterward, we relaxed in the wonderful onsen, making for a perfect evening. The next morning, a fantastic and varied breakfast awaited us, rounding off an exceptional stay. If you're looking for a truly authentic Japanese experience, this is the place for you!

Located on a hill and overlooking the famous Gero hot-spring area, Yunoshimakan, founded in 1931, offers large public indoor hot spring baths and open-air hot spring baths. I love the traditional room, the futon was so comfortable. The view was amazing! My entire stay was so comfortable. The public bath onsen was amazing. The staff were great too! I left my jacket upon check-out, upon calling them they were able to give it back to me in Gero station. Shuttle service is so convenient. The shoes clerk was very attentive, he was very nice. I love my entire stay. You basically pay for history and view, I would say it is worth it. Stay at least 2 nights!

This place was incredible. I cannot write enough good things about it! The service was above and beyond (even relative to the generally high standard in Japan). The food was delicious and plentiful, and the whole place was so serene. There are three onsen options - a "regular" public one, three private ones on a first-come-first-serve bases, and an outdoor public one with incredible views of a waterfall. We visited all three and all were great. We never had trouble getting one of the private ones when we wanted to, and the others weren't crowded either. The staff and waiters were very helpful and accomodating, and the whole experience was thoroughly relaxing. Worth noting that a short walk (maybe 5 minutes) from the hotel is the start of a hiking trail with amazing views (a good way to fill the time between soaks ;) ).

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. A great place to experience Ryokan style accommodations. Fabulous dinners and Japanese breakfast. Clean if simple onsen facilities and spacious Japanese style room with semi open tub.
