Amazing facilities and views to the temple. The treatment by the staff was impecable. Faboulous food and prime location! They offered taking us to the station, which was a plus! Also, lovely small shop inside the ryokan.

If you’re visiting Takayama, you MUST stay here. We had the most wonderful stay with the most wonderful hosts. I travel for work often, domestic and international, and typically stay at 4 and 5 star hotels. This is definitely among my favorite stays in my travels! We arrived shortly before check-in time and were greeted with tea, a snack, and warm blankets. The host sat down and showed us a map of all the best attractions in Takayama while we drank our tea. Our room and the entire ryokan were immaculately clean (very important to me) and super cozy. I actually looked forward to going back to the room each night to spend time near the coals or under the heated blanket table (the room has great AC and heat by the way). They also provided plenty of Japanese snacks, coffee, tea, incense, and even origami. The real reason you should stay here is because of the hospitality of the hosts and uniqueness of the experience. They were so happy to see us each time we arrived back at the property and were willing to answer any questions we had along the way. It was a treat to see them each day! Breakfast was included each day and you can choose a traditional Japanese style breakfast or a western style breakfast. I highly recommend trying the Japanese breakfast at least one day! It was intimidating for a westerner but is quite delicious and the staff will guide you through the whole experience. The onsen was perfect, so relaxing, and very clean. We went at the end of each day around 9 PM and there was no one in the onsen so it was basically private! The property is intimate and you don't need to worry about a lot of folks using the onsen at once. One note, the property is about a 20 minute walk from the main Takayama area but that wasn’t an issue for us. In fact it was perfect. It was so nice to wander through the side roads getting into and out of town. In fact, we came across more than one restaurant or sake brewery by just wandering around.

the location was in easy walking distance of everything as the town is so small. the ryokan was a couple blocks off the main street, making it a quiet location, although this did not matter as much with my room as it faced the interior garden. breakfast was exceptional, the best breakfast we had during our 3 week trip. it included a brazier typical of the area w/ the magnolia leaf holding the miso sauce (hoba miso). i only wish the chef had been available for us to try dinner. the building was gorgeous. every carved detail, the clever layout of the rooms, all the way down to the green flecked subtle wall coverings provided a peaceful calming atmosphere. each of the rooms had a covered entry as if you were walking down a street looking at separate buildings. each of the rooms had a different set of carvings (butterflies, turtles, peonies, birds). hall lights were wood lamps. ceilings were beautiful. many historical items like the small iori. our room had a carpeted wood entry area to take ones shoes off. sliding doors revealed a spacious (8 but felt like 10 tatami?) sitting room with a dressing table in one corner & hanging rack in the opposite corner. a 2nd set of sliding doors led to the bedroom, of equal size. the futons & coverlets were very comfortable. sliding doors revealed a balcony with 2 chairs one could view the garden. this was a luxurious amount of space. tea, towels, yukata provided. the onsen was just right in temp and comfort and amenities. our host was an older woman who was gracious and helpful. we were allowed to drop off our bags prior to check in

A beautiful ryokan with the most incredible private onsens in the rooms. We had the mountain view room, which meant we could open our window from the spring bath and look out over the temple and mountains. The staff were so kind, they made it a wonderful experience. Although in a relatively rural setting, the hotel is only a 5 min walk to the train station.

If you are looking for a traditional ryokan experience, then Yatsusankan is the place for you. We particularly enjoyed the food and the onsen. The staff was able to assist us in English whenever we needed them, which positively surprised us in a remote town such as Hida.

A really special experience at this ryokan in Hida Takayama. We stayed in the suite with our own private onsen bath. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. We loved the kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese dinner) and breakfast.

We are from Taiwan, and this is an excellent traditional Japanese inn. I am very satisfied with the service, the guest rooms, and the hot springs. I suggest ordering sake during dinner and trying the famous Hōrai and Shirayumi sake, which are local specialties. Additionally, I recommend making a reservation in advance for a private hot spring bath. It offers a fantastic bathing experience, and it's very relaxing to have a glass of milk after soaking in the hot spring. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful experience.

This is a typical Ryokan. We had a little onsen in our room. Great views of the shrine, river and mountains. Very friendly staff that really creates a customer experience. Meals are included so you will be served the traditional kaseiki in your own private dining room. The rooms are recently renovated.

It was an unforgettable ryokan experience. We ended up staying in both the Mountain View room and the Premium Suite. The PS was huge! It was beautiful, but older. The private onset was wonderful. I think I preferred the MV room though. It was newer and every detail was perfect. The people were wonderful. The food was incredible. Some things were a little challenging (the tiny firefly squid comes to mind), but I expected that. I met the nicest Japanese mother and daughter in the onsen, an experience I won't forget.

The welcome we received upon arrival was lovely. The ryokan feels very authentic with little hallways going off in all directions! We travelled through Japan for two weeks and this place had my favourite Onsen. To sit outside in the Onsen while it was snowing was magical. The breakfast was of course very Japanese and very abundant. We were never able to eat it all.
