This was an incredibly wonderful Japanese inn. It was a little away from the main busy area of Matsushima, but still easily accessible by walking. The building was charming and beautiful and very well kept. My family loved the public bath and it was my daughter’s first public bath experience. Every day after on our trip she asked if we could do public bath again. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. But the stand-out was the owners! The couple were incredibly kind and made us feel like more than guests. They felt like family immediately. The man gave a quiz when we checked in which was very fun, and even though my daughter wasn’t present for check-in, he still gave me a small treat to give to her. The woman was very attentive and kind and said goodbye and welcome back every time we left or returned. She even helped me find laundry facilities nearby. When we checked out, they insisted on driving us to the train station and not walking with all of our bags. Absolutely above and beyond service from all the staff. Not only would I stay here again, I will go out of my way to stay at Matsushima just to enjoy this inn.

Tokinenoyado Yunushi Ichijoh is situated in the Kamasaki Onsen district in Shiroishi, a 15-minute drive from Shiroishi Station and Shiroishi-Zao Station. This is a very special place. The staff are exceptionally kind and attentive, and the fact that we only speak English was handled effortlessly. We were picked up from the parking lot and received a warm and professional welcome. The food was excellent, with a wide and well-considered selection. The cake and birthday decorations we requested were prepared with great care and were much appreciated. The stay feels like a quiet step back in time. The baths are beautiful, the room was spacious and refined, and the historic building has a character that invites you to wander its corridors at ease.

The views over the islands of Matsushima were superb - truly one of the 3 great views of Japan! Our room overlooked the famous Fukuurabashi bridge through a picturesque screen of the twisted pine trees that make this view so iconic. The kaiseki style meals were superb - delicious and beautifully presented. Each dish was a delight of discovery, awe and wonder. We enjoyed a private onsen bath with sunset views and also visited each of the other public baths over the next day. The views over the bay are simply stunning.

Beautiful property. Wonderful staff. All very helpful and friendly. The public baths were wonderful. Outside baths were 2 different scenarios, one was gorgeous with five separate river rock soaking areas overlooking the river and forest, the other was 1 wooden tub in a small pavilion. Women have the beautiful spot afternoon/evening and swap with the men in the morning. Our room was very large and comfortable with a balcony and private soaking tub. The buffet style dinner and breakfast were delicious. Huge variety of freshly prepared foods. All you could eat and drink, beer, wine, various alcohol, sake, in the restaurant. The reception area had a piano, wood burning central fireplace to sit around. There were small tables with various board games, a library, snacks, beer and wine. Comfortable seating overlooking the hillside that was lit up at night. Very romantic spot to go for a special night.

Onsen was high class, both inside and outside, Nice and hot too. Dinner and breakfast is a must, very nice traditional meal sets which was nicely presented with great service. Overall experience was so good we will ensure a return visit if it fits in with our travel route through our next trip to Japan. Lovely experience.

Great and I mean GREAT service. The staff were amazing, catering to every need. The place is quiet and very zen. It is perfect for those looking for peace and want to meditate. The onsen facilities are clean and heavenly. There was a private onsen in my room and I enjoyed it ALOT.

The staff were all accommodating and the experienced felt very personalized. I could feel the traditional omotenashi service I rarely feel in ryokans in Tokyo nowadays.

The all-inclusive system was excellent. My foreign friend was thrilled by the all-you-can-drink sake. I was also surprised that, despite the place being nearly full throughout our stay, he was the only foreigner there. Is it because it's the Tohoku region? There really were very few foreign tourists. Free bus from Sendai station was great too.
