If you have a car and/or a family, then it's a must especially when compared (in terms of space, value, and amenities) to the hotel options around train station and tourist attractions. Kids and dad really enjoyed the complimentary firewood (bonfire, but there's a fee for extra wood) and BBQ grill (charcoal briquettes). Very spacious (indoor and outdoor), nicely designed, and just comfortable. A fridge full of complimentary drinks was the cherry on top! It was so good, we (2 adults and 3 young kids) stayed an extra night (we were planning our holiday a day or two at a time).

Set in Nakatsugawa, 100 metres from Toson Memorial Museum and 100 metres from Magome Wakihonjin Museum, GUESTHOUSE YANAGIYA offers air conditioning. A perfect place to stay if you are walking the Nakasendo Trail! Lovely host who also offered to book a table at an excellent restaurant in town.

Situated in Gujo, 46 km from Gero Station and 100 metres from Rensho-ji Temple, The Nomad Inn Gujo features air-conditioned accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. Right in the city center. It was a magical experience be so close to everything. Love to have the whole house for us. The owner welcomed us and helped us to go around.

Lovely, comfortable, clean, close to retro and historic shops. Takayama and Guest House Hinata was our favorite place during our stay in Japan. We booked two nights but wish we would've stayed longer.

Great location a brief walk to one of the Takayama markets. Convenient parking, a great layout and the open air bath was stellar. Excellent host, great location and a one of my favorite stays in my last trip to Japan.

Beautiful traditional Japanese house in a small town in the middle of the mountains. Every house item is crazy cool and beautiful. The owner has thousands of good records and will do a selection for you. Bed are comfortable. The level of attention to every single detail - from lighting to coffee or snacks - is beyond everything I have experienced. My only regret is not to have stayed longer to chat a bit more with Takashi - the music passionate who has the house and the amazing little cafe next door - to get to know him better. For sure a super interesting and lovely host!

We had the place all to ourselves, which made the stay special. The facilities were complete, everything was well thought of. The hosts were always accessible through messaging and offered weather and travel tips.
