With a view of Gujo Hachiman castle from the upstairs window, this house and town are simply great. Quiet, comfortable, within walking distance of what you come here to see. The owner, Masahiro-San, will treat you like family, and his advice about what to see and where to eat is spot on. If you cannot carry your suitcase up the steps to the upper floor, you can bring the futons downstairs and sleep on the heated floor. We came here with another couple and we all loved this house and Gujo. Ask Masa-San to pick you up at the station, if he can he will! The great reviews are very deserving, if you like Japanese style living you will like Nomad Inn. The 6 am. temple bell will remind you every morning what another world it is here!

Staying here felt like stepping into the heart of traditional Japan. The ryokan’s peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful onsen made it a truly unforgettable experience — one of the highlights of our entire trip. The rooms were elegant and comfortable, the hosts incredibly kind and welcoming, and every meal was a feast — beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Situated in a tranquil area in Gifu Region, a 52-minute drive away from JR Takayama Station, Mozumo boasts a hot-spring bath and rooms decorated with modern Japanese interior. I had a perfect relaxing time at Mozumo. All the staffs were very polite, friendly and helpful. The onsen was the highlight for sure, both the private and public ones. Perfect for bathing after a hike at Kamikochi. The room itself was big and very confortable. The location is also great, being about 5-7 minute walk from the bus station.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The food and service were both amazing! Thank you so much. We had an amazing stay. One of the very few places we will come back to after 33 days in Japan

Offering traditional Japanese-style accommodation with spacious public baths, Yatsusankan Over 6 years old is a 6-minute walk from JR Hidafurukawa Train Station. Wonderful staff, offering perfect service, warm hospitality, the manager even took our photo during the 90 minute traditional evening meal, and gave us the print at breakfast. Superb food, in a beautiful Ryokan, with comfortable Tatami area for beds, set in the most picturesque garden on a river bank. If you do only.1 Ryokan on your trip to Japan, choose this one. You can even reserve a private Onsen for an hour for $12 which gives an amazing couples experience.

ひらゆの森別邸湯う香三蔵庵 is set in the Hirayu Onsen district of Takayama, 47 km from The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, 49 km from Matsumoto Station and 13 km from Kamikochi. Location, private onsen in the suite, kaiseki dinner is elegant and delicious, so is the delicious breakfast, both served in our room, it’s a great experience. The staffs are very warm and helpful. It gave free entrance ticket to the big public onsen which is a great extra benefit.

Set in Gujo, 民泊Azoo provides accommodation 5.8 km from Takasu Snow Park and 6.8 km from Dynaland Ski Resort. Really nice and cosy accommodation. The hosts were very friendly and went above and beyond to help us when we needed it. Highly recommend.
