Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. This was the best hotel experience I’ve ever had! It feels like you’re staying in the temple, the staff are amazing, & the rooms are traditional but very comfortable. I can’t wait to come back!

Situated in Karuizawa, 16 km from Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park, Tokyu Vacations Karuizawa features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. Kitchen is well equipped for simple cooking. Two separate toilets which is a plus point. Had a bit of snow with temperature dropping to negative during our stay in early Dec but the apartment is warm enough with the heating provided. Location wise, about 10 to 15 mins walk to the karuizawa train station. Though it is definitely more convenient visiting Karuizawa and its surrounding area with a hired car but from the apartment, it is walkable to nearby attractions like the Prince outlet mall (next to the train station), and the old shopping street. We took a bus from the train station to Shiraito water fall, and on the way back, dropped off at the old shopping street (gyu karuizawa), had soba for lunch and walked back to the apartment which took us about 30 mins. (For self catering holidays, bear in mind that the nearest supermarket, Delicia, is about 2km from the apartment).

Set in Hakuba in the Nagano region, with Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort nearby, Hakuba Third Place Lodge offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. Akira and his family/staff could not have been more welcoming hosts. Akira personally picked us up from the bus station to bring us to the lodge and gave us a tour on arrival. We were able to check in early and hit the slopes at Goryu (<10 min walk). Hakuba Third Place Lodge’s private onsen was heavenly - we used it every day after snowboarding and it was never close to booked up. The room was clean, beautiful, spacious for what we paid and had great natural light. There was a cozy communal lounge space to play card games or watch shows that we actually took advantage of due to the welcoming atmosphere. The breakfasts were also great - my girlfriend is vegetarian, and they went out of their way to find a protein-filled replacement for the meat portion of the breakfast. Akira also gave us restaurant recommendations, helped us book our return bus to Tokyo, and even checked with another local before leaving us at the bus station to confirm we were at the right part of the station. I would have paid twice the amount in the United States for half the service we got here. I hope to be lucky enough to visit Hakuba again and stay at Third Place Lodge. I will be encouraging all my friends and family to stay here if they visit

Offering a shared lounge and mountain view, Snow Palace Nozawa is situated in Nozawa Onsen, 21 km from Ryuoo Ski Park and 32 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. We had a wonderful stay at this property during our ski holiday in Nozawa Onsen. The facilities were exceptional, particularly the spacious kitchen and dining area, which was very well designed and well equipped. The kitchen was extremely well fitted out, with everything needed for cooking additional meals if required, and we really appreciated the thoughtful breakfast provisions, including eggs, milk, tea, coffee, bread, jam, and cereal. We stayed in a double room with shower, and it was very comfortable. The beds were excellent, with clever under-bed storage for suitcases.There was also plenty of dedicated space for drying ski equipment in the drying room. The staff truly stood out — they were exceptional, incredibly friendly, and always happy to help. The staff are able to take you to the Nagasaka Gondola, which made getting to the lifts effortless. The location is quiet and peaceful, yet still just a short walk into the main part of Nozawa, giving the best of both worlds. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it for a ski trip.

Located in the Happo one area. Transfer service was heavenly! Staff was super nice and the onsen was perfect after a day out!

The breakfast is large and delicious. There are a sauna and a hot spring that you can book in advance, which is very convenient. The bus stop to the gondola is right next to the hotel. The staff are very nice and helpful. A free transfer from the bus terminal is also available. Everything is clean!
