Easy location near Yamagata Station, nice clean rooms and facilities, great amenities, 7-11 right downstairs, staff was great and friendly Everything about this hotel is made to be easy for the traveler. We didn’t include breakfast in our stay as it was for 6 nights but did buy tickets for one morning and it was delicious for a reasonable price

The owner was very friendly and told us where to go for lunch and dinner and the food there was fabulous as well! The drink at the bar was very tasty as well. Moreover, the owner offered Nintendo Switch with various games. The best thing the owner gave me was two cans of Dr. Pepper for my birthday present. That was a good treat from him!

Takasagoya Ryokan offers a public bath, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Zao Onsen, 200 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort. Warmest accommodations I’ve ever received. I loved every aspect of the place - sleeping, living, dining, showering, onsen, accessibility to the slopes. This is a beautiful place! The owners were very nice and they were very forgiving of our mistakes and helped out with our request.

Located within a 10-minute walking distance from the Zao Sky Cable aerial lift, Miyamaso Takamiya features 9 natural hot spring baths for guests to enjoy. One of the best ryokans we’ve stayed at in Japan. The location feels straight out of a Ghibli movie, with over 300 years of history and an amazing atmosphere. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed some of the best Japanese food each day at the ryokan restaurant. Since both me and my partner have tattoos, we booked the private onsen every evening through reception. The real highlight was the staff. They went above and beyond to make our stay special, spoke good conversational English, and checked in daily to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommended for an authentic, cozy ryokan experience!

Only a 1-minute walk from Zao Onsen Ski Resort, Zao Kokusai Hotel offers indoor/outdoor spacious hot-spring baths and Japanese-style rooms. The location was absolutely breathtaking, we visited in autumn but I'm already planning my next visit for winter! The staff were so lovely and accommodating, not everyone spoke perfect english but they make a genuine effort to make us feel welcome none the less. I loved the onsen, we used the private and public facilities and found them so relaxing. We ate in the restaurant every morning and once for dinner, the food was so well done and we loved getting a taste of the local cuisine. Seriously 10/10 its not the cheapest stay but it is worth the price.

Yamagata Zao Pension Apron Stage is a 3-star property set in Kaminoyama. It offers free WiFi, ski-to-door access, a garden and a restaurant. We loved our stay with Massa and his family. We enjoyed a comfortable stay here - we felt incredibly welcome with such wonderful, hard working and incredibly helpful hospitality from the hosts at this family run hotel. Momo, the shiba dog, was a massive hit with us - super friendly and we even took her for a walk! The ski resort is a 5 minute drive away - we parked in the Rental Naja car park for 1000 yen a day. This made it easier to access the slopes. We ate several times at the hotel - home cooked curry and amazing sushi. The breakfasts were varied and great. Free parking too which was helpful. Shared facilities were no issue…lots of sinks, good system for bathing. Would 100% return!

Situated in Yamagata, 16 km from Zao Onsen Ski Resort and 1.7 km from Yamagata Station, WAVILLA mihata cho features air-conditioned accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. The house is a traditional, cute, cosy Japanese home, we had a lovely time staying for 3 days and I’m amazed with how thoroughly the owner had prepared the property before we arrive. There was diffuser at the entrance, which made the house smells so lovely. Nice branded shampoo and shower gel, Dyson hair dryer and a vacuum cleaner ( definitely highlight of the place) very comfortable bed sets and pillows. Oh, we loved the blanket/ table set, it was such a clever invention to have a giant electric blanket in the living room under the table to keep us warm while watching a movie over the projector. Overall it was absolutely amazing for anyone who wants to experience traditional Japanese living style.
