The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko features restaurants, fitness centre, a lobby lounge bar and shared lounge in Nikko situated by Lake Chuzenji and overlooking Mount Nantai. We were expecting a fine hotel experience for our trip to Nikko but experienced so much more at the Ritz Carlton. Elevated, serene, beautiful facilities and accommodations along with one superlative food experience, made for one of our favorite stays anywhere, ever. Both of our rooms were wonderful, but the suite was just wonderful. All of the food was very good during our stay, but our omakase experience - our favorite sushi ever and one of our favorite meals ever. (For what it's worth, I have never used 'ever' so often in a review) Consistently friendly, helpful staff as well. This is a unique and special place and I fully expect that we'll retreat here again on future trips to Tokyo.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. We had a lovely room with a view of the river and cozy futons. The onsen were excellent, especially the private ones, and we enjoyed the Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We really loved our stay and would definitely like to come again.

Featuring air-conditioned accommodation with a balcony, 那須 にごり湯の大浴場露天風呂があるホテルコンドミニアム is set in Nasu. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. Spacious and good value for money.

Situated in Nikko, 17 km from Tobu Nikko Station, KINUGAWA KEISUI features accommodation with a spa and wellness centre, free private parking, an open-air bath and a garden. I am afraid our stay at Kinugawa Keisui might have destroyed our expectations towards other hotels for the future. I can only describe it as absolutely outstanding. Beginning with the scenario location next to a forest and a small river, the huge, modern, beautiful and amazingly comfortable room, which didn‘t only feature several small welcome presents, a minibar filled with a wide (and free) variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and huge and comfortable beds, ending at the most outstanding breakfast and dinner consisting I was allowed to witness in Japan, the hotel and the amazingly kind and professional staff made our stay to be nothing but amazing. There are some many small details we could list, such as the outdoor fire place where you can read a book in a calm and relaxed atmosphere sipping your coffee, the bento boxes for travels during the day, the Onsen on your balcony for which you can adjust the temperature to your perfect needs, the entertainment system in your room should you chose to relax here, the staff which gives you privacy should you want it but helps with any need you might have, the fast and stable internet anywhere in the hotel and and and. We usually don‘t book hotels again, but we will definitely return here during our next Japan trip.

Boasting a spa and wellness centre, Candeo Hotels Utsunomiya is set in Utsunomiya in the Tochigi region, 38 km from Nikko Station and 38 km from Tobu Nikko Station. Excellent and new hotel very close to JR Utsunomiya, and near the super-convenient Utsunomiya Terrace, with shops, restaurants, a 7-11, and a grocery store. Rooms are clean and decently sized, and the hotel includes use of their baths and saunas

Located in Nasu, 25 km from Shirakawa Station, Grand Mercure Nasu Highlands Resort & Spa provides accommodation with a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, free private parking and a restaurant. Absolutely love how child-friendly the hotel is. My children (3&1) loved the baby room with the toy kitchen, and the floor we were on had a small play space by the elevator, the wonderful play area inside and outside is fantastic and the buffet included children’s food & baby food. Just spectacular! My eldest experienced onsen for the first time and it was so spacious and easy for him to get around, he loved it! Me and hubby also loved the lounge evening drinks & snacks (which included sweets for the children - amazing) Thank you to the staff who spoke English for my check in!

Situated in Nikko, 13 km from Kegon Falls, KAMENOI HOTEL Okunikko features accommodation with a spa and wellness centre, free private parking, an open-air bath and a garden. The staff is nice, I lost my headphones at the train station, they helped to contact the station and found it. They also have snow shoe spikes and slider to rent out in winter, but we didn't know it until the day we leave.

43 km from Kegon Falls in Nikko, Hacho no Yu features accommodation with access to a hot spring bath, hot tub and spa centre. We went there at the end of our 2 1/2 week Japan travel for three nights. This is a wonderful retreat with an outstanding Onsen experience (three mixed outside hot spring onsen pools and another one outside onsen for woman only. All have a relaxing waterfall view. We were supplied with Yukata clothing and had delicious Kaiseki meals. On our last morning, without asking for it, we received a continental breakfeast instead of the Japanese one. We participated in a nice star gazing tour and did a great hike to the marshland (about 12 km, 4 hours there and back). We strongly recommend to come for more than one night, as travel there takes almost a day.

Guests can enjoy soaking in the indoor and outdoor public hot-spring baths at Nikko Senhime Monogatari. Massages can be requested and a sauna room is available for an extra relaxation. Beautiful, Lovely Ryokan hotel with Onsen, very well attended. Clean, friendly. Marvelous setting very close to famous shrines. Spacey room.
