The hotel is in a nice quiet location overlooking the Douro valley. The room was spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. The pool and pool area are great and available all day. The restaurant is good for dinner too but the breakfast is truly exceptional. I would give this hotel 5 stars instead of 4.

This was a very unusual and memorable experience. The conversion of the historic monastery into a luxury hotel is beautiful. Our room was excellent and incredibly comfortable, and both the spa and the pool facilities were top-notch. The staff was exceptionally helpful and welcoming throughout our entire stay. Additionally, the hotel restaurant was excellent—we had dinner there and it was absolutely delicious. Everything about this stay was fantastic.

We were looking for a romantic stay and got exactly that. It’s a very small boutique hotel and the staff is at your disposal for anything. Jose helped us with restaurant bookings, which are needed. And they all turned out great! We had a lovely wine tasting with the owner Gill and learned so much about the story of Casa Amarela, a unique and private experience!
