About Medellín

Including tips for the best time to visit Medellín

Medellín exemplifies an urban oasis with a fair balance of skyscrapers and breathtaking landscapes of the Aburrá Valley and Porce River. This Colombian city is a hub for cultural festivals, contemporary public art and glitzy nightlife.

Medellín is rightly called the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ thanks to its year-round pleasant weather, best enjoyed while strolling through the lush Bolívar Park. You can also take a walk along Berrío Park, situated in the heart of the city or grab a bite at a traditional Colombian restaurant at Lleras Park. Along with parks, the city is also dotted with several plazas, such as Botero Plaza, characterised by 23 bronze sculptures and its proximity to the Museum of Antioquia. Plaza de Cisneros, known for its artificial forest of light poles, is another fascinating place to explore.

Medellín’s natural beauty can be captured through an aerial gondola ride between its steep hills. The Medellín Metro runs along the north-south and east-west corridors, making it easy to access different parts of the city. An extensive network of buses and trams also helps in improving the connectivity of the city centre to its nooks and crannies.

It was a beautiful city with a lot of green space.

30 April 2024

It was a beautiful city with a lot of green space. I really enjoyed the energy and resilience of the people. I did not feel unsafe, not anymore than any other large city. I also stayed smart and watched my bags for pickpockets, which was my biggest concern. I avoided areas and activities that could get me in trouble. The metro was easy to maneuver.

Look very closely the hotel and room you rent to include the amenities.. I have stayed in over 6 different hotels in the range of $60-$87. It was very difficult to find a good hotel that met my basic needs 1- Ac that works, not fans 2- A good breakfast or at least a place to eat close by 3- Security or lighting when returning at night 4- Clean working bathrooms with hot water and knobs that don't fall off 5- No surprises when checking in or out with surprise fees When you find one like I have stick to that hotel the next visit or go up in price range

Comfortable weather.

25 April 2024

Comfortable weather. Awesome food, beer and coffee. You can plan your whole trip around the city with Uber, super safe and cheap. Hear the advise of the locals, they know better. Plan for a whole afternoon on "Comuna 13", immerse yourself in the culture, have dinner and do your shopping. Withdraw money on the "BanColombia" ATM's, they have the better rate. Book the Guatapé trip, but make sure that they stop at "Altos del Chocho". Tip your tour guides and waiters, they work for it.

The food and the culture were great.

10 April 2024

The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing. And although the tap water is safe to drink in this city, I would stick to bottled water unless you won't mind the rather poor (and metallic) taste of tap. One thing to note if you are an obvious foreigner, there are people constantly hounding you and bombarding you while you are walking in the street just to sell you things, get you to dine with them, or simply give you money. This was my least favorite part of the trip. I am a tall white American woman. At certain times of the day/night, I could not walk 10 steps without being approached by street vendors or begging children.

The city if Medellin is a city like no other.

7 April 2024

The city if Medellin is a city like no other. You have a mixture of city-like with the immersive of nature. It looks like a city with beauty and nature combined. I suggest taking the metro or cable car. Medellin is similar to NYC but way more eco-friendly!

be careful with taxi's they may run the bill up taking longer routes, UBER works better, but even they try to modify a trip for a greater fare .. You can walk el Pobaldo without any problem .
