Hotels that guests love in Basel

  • On our first family holiday they provided a cot and offered lots of extras to make our stay comfortable. Free travel in basel, including to the airport and they even helped us order takeaway food! Excellent service, worthy of a 5 star hotel and good price for Basel.

Maurice, Family with young children from the United Kingdom
  • Staff on reception and in the breakfast room extremely helpful and proactive. Hotel is on the square in front of the station and near the airport bus too; the Old Town is a pleasant 10min walk. Great choice of breakfast and high quality offerings. Fast wi-fi.

Jonathan, Solo traveler from the United Kingdom
  • Exceptional staff - friendly, helpful, English speaking. Hotel close to river, Old Town, trolley and bus lines and excellent dining. Fifteen minute taxi ride to airport.

Violet, Group from the United States
  • The hotel was very close to the center of the old town and next to St Peter's Church. The breakfast was nice and, although it seems expensive when you look at the price on booking.com, it's much cheaper than breakfast you can get anywhere else in Basel - especially on a Sunday morning!

Evangeline, Young couple from the United States
  • The location was great. It was an easy walk to the sites in the old town and the river. There is a tram stop outside the hotel and the mobility pass allowed us to travel to see sites in the city and also to get to the airport easily. We were leaving too early to have the breakfast and they packed a lunch for us.

Gast - und Kulturhaus Der Teufelhof Basel Wonderful 9 Very cute medium size so if you are looking for something that is not big chain hotels then it would be perfect. Had some personal greeting, bottled water, candies etc waiting for you in your room. Close to everything, also they game me the public transport pass. Probably one of the best experience in my stay at sub-5 star hotels.
Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois Wonderful 9.2 I think this is simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms overlooking the Rhine are stunning.
Krafft Basel Excellent 8.7 Everything...!!! Food...Awesome!!!
Euler Hotel Basel Excellent 8.7 Outstanding hotel! For the price I cannot praise the Eular Hotel enough. The location is fantastic (literally 2min walk from Basel SBB station and a scenic 8mins walk into the old town). The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, catering for your every need promptly and always with a smile. There is a complementary coffee and tea counter on each floor, which is fantastic and cost efficient (Basel is very pricey for the tea and coffee). Our hotel room was an economy but could well pass for a deluxe, it was very clean, tidy and spacious. The Wifi was superfast (the fastest and most reliable I've experienced in any hotel, plus it's free!). I would not hesitate to book here again and would recommend it to anyone. Well done Eular Hotel, we did not want to check out!!
Best Western Hotel Merian am Rhein Very good 8.1 We had a small room with balcony. The room had all the amenities and even more than larger rooms at other hotels we've stayed in... which was surprising for its size. We loved the view and small balcony. The beds were very comfortable as well. The hotel was adjacent to the shopping district and right beside a tram stop. Perfect location. Would stay again.
Hotel Schweizerhof Basel Wonderful 9.1 Mini bar, breakfast was outstanding I had to leave early at5:00 but the hotel was able to provide me a great breakfast dispite the early time. The bathroom was large and clean.
Hotel St. Gotthard Basel Excellent 8.9 He rooms were clean and comfortable, but the staff and house for, Aramis, were the main attractions. All so helpful and friendly... And Aramis is perfectly happy to get pats and cuddles, and prefers not to be ignored. . Csnt recommend this hotel enough for it's hospitality, kindness, convenience and location.
Dorint Hotel Basel Very good 8.2 it was nice and comfortable stay with small children.
Airport Hotel Basel Excellent 8.9 one of the best hotels I've EVER stayed at ! rooms are wonderfully decorated, entirely renovated and very modern, you sleep like a baby and the breakfast is to die for! great staff 24/7 and great gym open 24/7 too! would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Basel or even to anyone catching a connecting flight the following day, that s what I did and therefore the quick and free airport shuttle from the hotel was very convenient :)
Hotel Rochat Excellent 8.7 The staff were very helpful! We were made to feel at home! Would love ❤ to come back!! X

    Switzerland Through the Ages

At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant. With Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.

Augusta Raurica on its outskirts has a well-preserved Roman theater, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colorful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.

When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.

The Basel accommodations on Booking.com ranges from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March you might just catch Fasnacht: Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to see it start though - 4am!
