I was so glad to have chosen this hotel: it made my solo car journey up France much, much better. The village is close enough to the motorway, but still feels like a world of its own. The hotel and restaurant are the project of two former city dwellers, and they are the nicest hosts - as everyone before me has said! The hotel has a comfortable and homely feel, with interesting furnishings collected by the owners. Breakfast was delicious.
Their stylish and informal restaurant Les Chimeres around the corner is absolutely excellent. Mialy really went out of her way to make me feel comfortable as a woman travelling alone, and Thierry cooked a genuinely delicious and inventive meal, frankly better than anything I’ve had elsewhere in France this summer.
All in all, one of those unexpected experiences which leave you feeling you’ve been part of someone fulfilling a dream, and gives you faith in humanity.

Staff and food are excellent. Room is perfect for a night stay and like you can expect for the price. Well done!

In the heart of the town. Kitchenette available, but no hot water in it to wash up adequately.

The town’s location suited us to break our long drive through France. It’s a bit of “faded glory” now - clearly affluent in the past but struggling now. It’s river-side walks, cycle rides and fishing make it a good location for relaxation.
There’s a restaurant called Allo Allo, in the main square offering good, straightforward dishes, and they have lots of capacity to eat outside.
It's a perfect place to break a journey to or from the south of France, a small and simple unpretentious but comfortable hotel close enough to the motorways, but far enough away to be pretty in its own right. You can have something like this, or you can have a soulless bedroom in the middle of an industrial estate in one of the motorway chains. Really there's no comparison.
The small hotel is professionally run by Thierry. It is simple, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was equally simple but of good quality. However, Thierry also runs the sister restaurant: Les Chimeres, 100m away, which is superb. The food and service was excellent and worth a visit to St Gaultier. We will be returning to both hotel and restaurant.
Quiet town only one restaurant open which is run by same people as hotel but food was excellent and very good value. Worth visiting for restaurant alone but also nice walk by river but not much else to do in town in late February!
