Perfect location. This was such a cool hotel and lots of details were meticulously chosen for the vibe. The staff was helpful and friendly. They downplayed their English abilities when asked, but their English was excellent. There is a laundry on site which can be helpful for packing light. The room was spacious, maybe around a standard US room size, with a spacious shower. There is a little outdoor cafe right outside and this hotel is just steps away from many historic streets. This hotel was truly unique.

Incredibly charming place. The Japanese retro interior design in the common living room is amazingly put together (and designed by the host himself!). It has a warm and welcoming feeling. The backyard with koie fish is also beautiful. The host is super nice and speaks English fluently. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit Kyoto!

The building is in a very cute neighborhood of Kyoto, a little outside the center (15 min walking) near Gion. It is a simple ryokan, a Japanese bed and breakfast. The typical Japanese furniture with Tatami and futon is exquisite. The bathrooms and shower are shared but since the building is only of three bedrooms they are never crowded. Final highlight is the hosts. They are super kind, warm and available for any problem you might have. We had a problem unrelated with them during our stay and they helped us solve it right away. Really awesome people in a cute little Japanese house, Hanakiya will make your stay in Kyoto unforgettable!

The location is fantastic! A very beautiful neighbourhood. The Lady that works there is so nice and cute and tried to Help us with everything :) the futon and cushion were very comfortable. But the Walls are rather thin so be warned.
