I have been to CR twice now, both times I've stayed in Coco.
I have been to CR twice now, both times I've stayed in Coco. The first time was a random selection based on a whim travel, but we had such an amazing time that we decided to bring more friends back 4 years later. We trained both times at Playa BJJ and did the sunset catamaran tour with Marlin del Rey both times. The second time, we rented a villa so we cooked alot of our own meals - the grocery stores, meat store, and fruit stands were amazing. The beach culture was great. A couple of us ended up using Uber and taxis - very manageable. Coconutz Brewhouse was great with their live music. El Capricho Mexican Restaurant & Bar was so much fun with a fishbowl drink and karaoke. Tortuga Bar was great. The boys hiked out to Isleta El Coco and had an amazing time. We hiked to La Leona waterfall - not super hard but requires mobility as you ramble alongside the rocky river for a few kilometers... absolutely worth it! We also went to Catarata Llanos del Cortes (another waterfall) where you can walk up to a lagoon and swim right in the waterfall. I would go back to Coco again - hands down.

The timing of our visit was great.
The timing of our visit was great. No crowds but hot, hot, hot and humid. April 27-May 3. Because so many people visit Costa Rica, the cost of food and just about everything isn't reasonable. We ate at the well known local restaurants which were expensive but good. Too much butter used with the fish, though I should have insisted on braised fish. We ate at Mar Azul. The Mexican restaurant was good. Note, for those who just jump in the car and pick a destination, beware that all the roads aren't paved. We went to Nosara and man-oh-man, though driving but ABSOLUTELY scenic. Glad we had a 4X4 and good ground clearance.

It is a family situation, very very basic.
It is a family situation, very very basic. Clean with a kitchen that had no cooking utilities other than a coffee maker & fridge that did not work.
I had a cooler, my own cooking supplies etc so it worked for me.
Radio & Tv could be a bit loud but shut down early.
I have lived in Latin America, so I understand a family situation where many may not!
I loved the hostess! I love the proximity to the beach in the downtown and if you don’t have a vehicle to get around, it’s perfect for that and super inexpensive! Bonuses for travellers who don’t want to be a hostel

Costa Rica is beautiful and the people are friendly and lovely to get to know. There are options for those who are active - think hiking through the rainforest, fishing, surfing or for relaxing - think sitting by the pool or ocean with a good book. The shopping is fun. There are animals and beautiful nature - volcanos, waterfalls, flowers to surround yourself with.

Easy drive from Liberia Airport.
Easy drive from Liberia Airport. The town is small enough to be friendly and just large enough to have what you need. The beach is nicely maintained and easy to access. The people was very friendly and although the language is Spanish, we didn't have any problems communicating.

Amazing views from the hills.
Amazing views from the hills. This is a quieter town but plenty of businesses to keep you entertained. CocoNutz and Zi Lounge are the most lively spots for night life. A variety of restaurants including Mexican, Italian, Indian, Mediterranean, BBQ and burgers. MegaSuper for groceries (had everything including liquor). I would happily stay here again.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It's just a block away from Coco Beach. It was nice to have an apartment with 2 bedrooms (only 1 bathroom though) when traveling with friends. Especially the big, comfortable veranda for shared time. We appreciated being able to use their laundry one night-just ask staff to help. It was a new concept for us to bring plates, etc. from our apartment kitchen, to get our breakfast, which was the usual fare, and plentiful. Very good air conditioners and Wi-fi. Everybody enjoyed the clean pool.
This is a beautiful hotel--truly lovely. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were super nice and down to earth. Staff helped us figure out transportation by calling around to various Car Rentals--just really above and beyond customer service. We also loved the building itself. Really, really pretty. Appreciated that there was hot water, delicious breakfast, and that it was generally just very peaceful. We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up coming back at the end of our trip. Highly recommend Hotel Villa del Sol.
This is a well run hotel with excellent restaurant and pool. Also grocery store right in the hotel.
Staff at hotel helped with taxi and even got a doctor to the hotel to test us .
The new owners are great managers and well on their way to making this a wonderful place to stay. Maybe considered boutique. In my opinion the Palms restaurant is the best in Coco.
The rooms at the current time are modest , clean and comfortable
The place was very comfortable, clean and well located (5-10 min walk to the beach). Jesus Manuel and Diego were very easy to communicate with and were welcoming. We were a group of 4 friends working remotely and the internet connection was reliable and stable. The pool and shared spaces are very nice - the condos are very well maintained.
We absolutely loved our stay and highly recommend Coco and Valle Dorado!
The place is fantastic, the condo is very nice with swimming pools and beautiful garden. The view from the bedroom is soooo relaxing! There's a hot water that is not typical for Playas del Coco. The stuff (Silvio and Antonio) are very kind.
The owner is amazing person. If you have some problem she's always there for you, to help.
Nice people and nice place.... Thank you for everything! ❤️
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Great location, a beautiful hotel, directly across from the beach. Walkable into town, secure parking, and the room was cozy and sweet just as I'd hoped after a long day of travel. I lived in CR for 5 years until recently, and this hotel exceeded my expectations. Very clean, well-appointed, and spacious, with a window in my room facing the ocean right across the street. I really recommend the hotel itself.
The condo is great. Very nice kitchen, bathrooms and furniture. The balcony is amazing. You can see all the way to Playa Naranja and Witch’s Rock. Everything is high end. The pool was perfect for cooling off. Close to playa ocotillo, which is very pretty. Playas de Coco has everything you’ll need to stock the Kitchen. We had an excellent time and look forward to returning. Thanks
The host is SO KIND and helpful. The location was great: on a quiet street but very close to the beach and main street. The room is a bedroom in a shared, Costa-Rica-style house, so it gives the feel of a more local stay (as opposed to foreign-styled hotels). There's also a kitchen guests can use, which helped us save money (Playa del Coco is expensive!!!).
breakfast was excellent! Served by very responsive, polite and friendly staff.
Hotel's location by the best part of the beach. Not crowded, loud or too busy.
The garden around the grounds was superb and the staff friendly and very helpful.
The pool and other sitting areas outside were very comfortable.
Very quiet and peaceful
The most perfect location in Coco.
The building is beautiful, and the pool is lovely. But the highlight is the staff. They (and the owner) are completely invested in making your stay extraordinary.
With all the doors that open to the pool area, a family atmosphere happens. Very friendly, very safe feeling.
All the people who work at Hotel La Puerta del Sol are kind, welcoming and helpful! The breakfast is absolutely amazing!! The Garden Bar has many activities, great food and the pool area is so relaxing. Wifi is excellent! I felt very safe. I would definitely stay there again.
Chiny (host) was great! Very attentive and readily available via whatsapp. Great property/value if you decide to stay in Coco and want a townhouse/apartment experience. Chiny and husband recently purchased this property and are working hard to get it back into tip top shape.
the pool is great, the breakfast, and dining area in general were great. beach is steps away, though you don't see it.
bars restaurants few steps away as well. there is a convenience store within the hotel with all the basics. Staff was nice. common areas were clean
Location was outside the main town, it was a bit of a hike at night on badly lit muddy roads. You could walk to the town along the beach if adventurous because of a small stream you have to ford. There was a nice beach bar near the hotel. The town was quaint.
Very nice place, close to Ocotal and Coco beach. Nice to stay if you have a car or motorcycle however, even if you need to move by walking it's close enough to coco and ocotal beach, bars, restaurants and groceries store
Right on the main strip. The owner/front desk lady was extremely helpful. Super close to main beach. Pool is not attached to hotel- but 100% worth going to. Front desk will arrange a paid taxi to bring you there.
Tasty breakfast with four choices for variety. Good air conditioning and space in room. Great location in Coco for walking to beach or the main street resturants.
