Playas del Coco was a really easy and enjoyable place to spend time in Costa Rica. It has a relaxed beach-town feel, with plenty of restaurants, bars, cafés and shops within walking distance, so it is very convenient as a traveller. I liked that it felt social and lively without being too overwhelming, and it was a good base for meeting other travellers, eating well and exploring the area. The beach itself is more of a relaxed walking/sunset beach than a serious surf beach, so surfers may want to travel elsewhere for better waves. But for food, drinks, atmosphere, convenience and a fun traveller-friendly base, Coco is definitely worth visiting.

The town was somewhat messy with regards to rubbish on the streets and very uneven sidewalks for access to locations. Lots of good restaurants and cafes to suit most budgets both in town and along the beach. The Coco catamaran sunset tour was vey good.

Coco is a very nice bech town.

Coco is a very nice bech town. It has now become very expensive. I use to live there but left because of the high price of rent. More than $1200 USD per month with shared, pay for laundry and no oven. I was told by the realtor that a two bed, two bath place with an oven and laundry would cost me more than $2000. Before the pandemic I was paying $800 per month for a two bed two bath with an oven and free shared laundry. I left Coco for about a year and when I returned (after the pandemic) all of the rents were at least $1200 USD per month. Extreme price gouging for sure. Still Coco is a very nice place but has become a very expensive place also.

It is a good place to find a restaurant and nightlife.

It is a good place to find a restaurant and nightlife. There are much nicer beaches close by if you are looking to enjoy the water and a nice sunset. Unfortunately the rising costs in Costa Rica are making it less desirable to visit. It is getting run down in many areas and the costs are climbing dramatically.

I strongly recommend staying in the Hampton Inn Hotel near Liberia airport and less than 30 minutes from Coco. The town of Coco is not suited for walking as there are only a few run down sidewalks. Food is excellent although extraordinarily expensive. Weather was hot and sunny but beach was not particularly welcoming with a run down pathway filled with stoners. Water perfect warmth and sand silky, but poor ocean visibility near shore as the black sand was churned up by the waves. Had to walk a long way out to get to water above my knees. No lifeguard and would not leave any valuables unattended.

If you're staying at the Riu Guanacaste, be sure to fly into Liberia Guanacaste Airport (LIR) rather than Juan Santamaría International Airport unless you're prepared to drive for about five hours due to Costa Rica’s poor infrastructure and heavy traffic.

The best accommodation in Playa del Coco! 😍 We originally booked two nights but extended our stay to five and it was absolutely worth it. A big compliment to the host:he is very kind, helpful, and arranges everything you need right away. The entire staff is also very friendly and pleasant. ❤️ A beautiful and safe place with a lovely pool and plenty of privacy. Great location! You can reach the town center and the beach in just a few minutes, while still enjoying peace and quiet. Highly recommended!🌴

It is close to El Coco beach and the common area is nice. However, El Coco itself is a dirty beach and not one I would want to spend my time at. It was our first night after landing in Liberia and I wanted to book something by the beach and not too far from the airport. The best decision we made was go to Brasilito in the morning!
