What I liked the most: historical sites, harbour, beach promenades, gorgeous public parks, relaxing atmosphere in the city and shops, very helpful and friendly people, always offered help when I was looking at the map without me asking, enough public toilets, fantastic food even in supermarkets.
What I didn't like: The bus stops of the whole journey are not listed at the bus stops. Only the name of the bus stop itself, the final destanation and a timetable. There is also a map with one million bus routes, but it is a bit confusing. No list of bus stops on buses either, although bus stops are announced. In the Aquarium you can only get an audio guide giving a ticket seller your ID, which will be returned to you only when you return the audio guide. It was the only museum ever in my experience, which needed to keep my ID until I return the audio guide. I wasn't ready to trust a stranger with the only document I had abroad, so I refused. I find such policy quite extreme.

La Rochelle is a beautiful place, great history and architecture and wonderful to wander around. Local food and wine was excellent.
Sadly we had rain a lot of the time so we didn't get to any beaches, and we took the 2 hour boat trip to Fort Boyard, but there wasn't much else to see, so I doubt I would recommend that unless you just want to watch the water for 2 hours. Some upscale shopping in the old town, and some wonderful fresh food and seafood markets.
A superb classical guitarist played in the street by the boats, in the late afternoon.
Altoether a pleasant place to spend a few days.

I'd been to La Rochelle about 20 years ago for work and had little opportunity to do the tourist thing. A beautiful town, excellent market and shops and great dining. Go for it if those things float your boat.

Beautiful place to visit. Plenty to see and do.
Beautiful place to visit. Plenty to see and do. Great choice of restaurants.
Easy to get around; if you arrive by car, leave it parked up because everywhere in La Rochelle is mostly walkable. Use the bus to get to La Pallice (for the WWII sub base) and the Île de Ré etc. and take the local or TGV trains from the La Rochelle central station to get further afield.
The pool was nice and was quiet while we were there. It wasn't quite child friendly at 1.6m deep, but we made it work anyway. Being able to park right under the hotel was great and the lift was very quick, so it wasn't inconvenient being on a higher floor. It was very close to the centre and the area itself was quite quiet. The room was just big enough with bunk beds on one side, main bed on the other, and a baby cot in between. It was nice to have a sink in the room for preparing baby milk.
It was very clean, comfortable bed. The reception desk staff was really helpful in helping us getting around. The location is not necessary central, but it's on a fair walking distance from Aquarium, the Maritime Museum, the Old Port and towers of La Rochelle (around 1 km). I highly recommend to visit "Le France 1 - Bar de la mer" ship, nowadays converted in a floating restaurant, which is less than 300 m from the hotel.
We had a great stay at this apartment, and would not hesitate to stay here again. We drove up from Bordeaux, and Benoit met us with the keys and to give us a walk through the apartment. The parking is just a short walk down the next street. Apartment is well appointed, we were able to cook a couple of dinners, get some laundry done - and very much enjoy our time in Old Port La Rochelle, just an easy walk away.
The somewhat outdated mid-range hotel was less than a three-minute walk from the train station. The old port and thus also the city center of La Rochelle was surprisingly close, less than ten minutes' walk away. The hotel is somewhat hidden in concrete architecture. My navigation software thought that the hotel was permanently closed. This was wrong. I pointed this problem out at reception.
This is a beautiful hotel, the room was large and a really comfortable bed, Catherine was truly lovely, she let us check-in late when our plane was diverted and even gave us some much needed food when we arrived. The breakfast is amazing with beautiful fresh bread and rolls and the gorgeous homemade jams were so nice. It is in a perfect part of La Rochelle, we will definitely be back.
The helpful welcome, useful advice on restaurant options in La Rochelle and booking service created very positive first impressions. The hotel and room are comfortably laid out and the interior decor is notable for the artistry and positive experience it created. We enjoyed a beautiful view and as sailors, loved watching the passing boats.
The staff was friendly, car park was great in the hotel ground and walking to the harbour was short distance. Great location and I would stay again for sure if I ever go to La Rochelle again. I am usually a 4-5 star hotel person, but this was great and could be a 4-star if it had small fridge and bath tub in the room we stayed in.
Amazing double doors and little balcony, overlooking the harbour and sea fort. La Rochelle is the city that never sleeps, and the most vibrant place in France that we’ve visited. The rest was usual budget standard. Bed was comfortable, staff friendly and kind. Children’s play park right opposite, by the harbour.
great idea to offer sleeping on a boat - we're on a road trip through France and this was among the most memorable places we stayed!
The hosts were very nice and the boat was comfortable and cute. The dock is very close to the city center, perfect!
Would recommend this to everyone coming to La Rochelle!
I loved the vibe of the hotel and I loved how close it was to the beach area. Sunset and view were AMAZING.
You also have rentable bikes close to the hotel so you can ride all along the shore and the marine.
Amazing.
Nice location, clean and well maintained hotel. Beach and beautiful park just across the street. Easy access to old port entertainment district in walking distance. Nice comfortable bed, animal friendly.
beautiful room, wonderful staff that were very helpful. Underground parking was close to the hotel. The location was great and easy to navigate the city from there. Bed and pillows where great.
Vanessa the owner was the perfect hostess, always attentive to every detail, our needs and had suggestions for La Rochelle highlights. Relaxing, quiet environment in a perfect location
The Hotel was pretty much what I would expect in a budget hotel near the centre of La Rochelle acceptable with helpful staff but an old building with no lift and reasonable rooms.
Nice to stay aboard the boat in the La Rochelle marina, a bit of a change on our road tour of France. A lovely walk into town in the evening- thoroughly recommend it.
Very close to La Rochelle station - 5 minute walk. Hotel is very modern, looks like it was recently refurbished. Room was clean, comfortable. Nicely furnished.
What a magical way to spend a few days in La Rochelle. Right in the middle of the Old Port, the location is superb. My kids loved playing pirates on the boat.
