Quick walk to a delicious boulangerie, an outdoor wine bar, a superb restaurant, & one of the best wineries for crémants. With its traditional shutters, original features, & many old oak beams, the house is a warren of English language book-lined shelves, unexpected spaces, & cosy areas. The property is entirely enclosed by a walled-garden, the grand entrance & an enormous wine chai, so that you have complete privacy. There are 4.5 ensuite bedrooms: an enormouse Family Room with double height, oak-beamed ceiling, superking sleigh bed, grand fireplace & mezzanine bedroom with breathtaking views; the Zebra Room with a comfortable kingsize bed & bath; the Stag Room which is a pretty triple shower en-suite, & the Gate Room which is a triple room with sink & a giant chess board. The Salon is a traditional stone walled library with a grand tuffeau fireplace to keep you warm, & plenty of board games. The Upstairs’ Lounge is between all the bedrooms & contains a pool table, DVDs, a large TV, & books for children of all ages. The Kitchen-Lounge is a rustic triple aspect room that's full of light & beautiful views over the courtyard & stables. The Dining Room houses a table for larger groups. At the heart of The Old Winery is a courtyard that feels like a village square. This is the best spot for star-gazing, bird & bat watching. In Jul-Sep, there is an unheated above ground 3mx3m pool. In the heart of old Anjou, Le Puy-Notre-Dame, a Petite Cité de Caractère and Village de Charme, is a beautiful mini-Mont St Michel in a sea of vineyards. It even has its own AOC, Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame with 27 independent winegrowers producing whites, crémants, rosés and reds. Every year, in July, the village is filled with the roar of the engines of pre-war automobiles which race around the village in the Grand Prix Rétro. We are close to grand chateaux, the Loire river and beautiful towns and villages. Saumur is close by with its stunning castle on top of a hill overlooking the Loire river. Visit at the weekend when the market stalls spill all through the cobbled streets. Le Puy is less than 5km to Doue-la-Fontaine, with its famous troglodytic Bio-Parc and roses, and Montreuil-Bellay, with its exquisite chateau overlooking the Thouars river - a great place for kayaking. Finally, the Loire is a UNESCO world heritage site so literally everywhere is beautiful – get in a car or on a bike and explore! You can park freely at the property.
