Score from 1102 reviews Good
nice location, pleasant reception staff, room was nice.
We are used to a king size bed so we had to upgrade to a more expensive superior room to get this, which was disappointing. Room was cold on going in even though it was 5 in the evening. Initially we were offered an electric heater but when I made a fuss they put the heating on, apparently someone had clicked boiler off. Good breakfast but small cup of coffee and no refill offered.
Central location in New Forest Delicious food Friendly staff
Lovely Hotel in a nice location. No complaints.
Cost of taking two dogs was quite prohibitive
a bit tired, needed a bit of a spruce up
Friendly and very helpful staff. The location is excellent and downstairs receptions areas are plush also very comfortable. Even at the time of year it was still very, very pleasant.
The room decor was tired, the wardrobe doors were stiff and squeaky which did't form the impression we were expecting. We felt there is massive potential with little investment on rooms and food which would make this hotel what we expected, it just fell a little short.
Everything....cycling, walking and location, a lovely neck of the woods. Many thanks
Friendly staff and upgrade
Room service breakfast arrived -at least the consumables did but nothing to eat it off or with.
The breakfast was good
The evening meal was poor, very small and expensive
The location is fantastic. Loved the ponies and cows on the lawns.
The rooms were on the same level as a travel lodge, I expected more for what we paid.
The ability to travel with the animals.
Noisey and breakfast cooking smells through the windows was off putting.
Wonderful setting and terrific standard of accommodation.
the pool friendliness of restaurant staff good breakfast
tiny bathroom - door hit the toilet seat no recognition by receptionist that we had arrived, she stayed on the 'phone and made another call whilst we waited. food took some time but we were not in a hurry. Gin and tonic went to another table - but we got it back. whole hotel covered in scaffolding which spoilt appearance
Location, clean room, nice bar/ lounge area Bar food was lovely.
Although breakfast was lovely we had to keep asking for the tea and coffee several times, it came in the end though and staff did apologise.
The bed didn't look as if it had been changed. Creaking floorboards at night.
Location but very expensive for what it was
being charged for late room book out
Room very mediocre for the money
The smell, it was dirty and not good value for money
Location, ambiance, clean bedroom and en suite, comfortable bed ( though only 4'6" ) Character of building. Breakfast (though at extra cost)
We thought the room was expensive considering no breakfast was included and the bed was only 4'6" and uncomfortably warm at night despite open window. Restaurant service was polite but sloooowww.
The location, peace and quiet. Dinner food was very good.
Poor restaurant staff skills
We liked everything about the hotel
Service and staff lovely
Rooms too hot and creaky floorboards they need nailing down
Reception staff and serving staff polite, courteous and enthusiastic. The room was swiftly and efficiently serviced whilst we took breakfast, a turn down service was offered. Hotel located on the edge of Brockenhurst a shortish walk from the village centre where there were a selection of eateries if the hotel didn't suit. Excellent breakfast buffet and good to have hot plates! Good Free wifi available.
I do not consider it lived up to its four star rating, three at a pinch. The so called "superior" room was far from it I would have expected a couple of comfy armchairs rather than the ubiquitous tub chair and dining chair at the desk (which was too wide to fit under thus encroaching on the limited floor space). The memory foam bed was not particularly comfortable and certainly not for sitting on in the absence of armchairs. The bathroom was ok but the sanitary fittings were of poor quality. The bath water had a brownish colour which it don't know if this was due to peaty water or rust in the plumbing! For a spa hotel I would have expected bathrobes in the room. The "Beresford" restaurant promised fine dining but failed to come up to expectation and the service was uninspiring but perhaps I'd been spoiled by a proper fine dining experience elsewhere a couple of days prior. The following day we tried the bar menu which was better but marred by my wife finding a facial hair in her risotto. Finally upon checking out I discovered an expensive bar bill and found that £30 worth of G&T added to the bill. On the day in question I had consumed a bottle of beer and my wife a cocktail! A reminder to always check you bill! Overall a lot of money for a very mediocre hotel experience.
Food was excellent. Very comfortable room and wonderfully comfortable bed! Staff were excellent too. Lovely receptionist too.
We were attending a wedding; the venue seemed ideal and the food was excellent.
The bar prices were very expensive (seemed to be the most expensive hotel bar I have come across) considering the cost of the rooms as well it made a very expensive weekend ......
