The breakfast was ok. When I made the booking there were no pictures of the apartment, but as I could see pictures from all the other rooms and they were nice and modern I figured that the apartment would have the same standards. I couldn't be more wrong! The apartment was not only very tired and uncomfortable as it was filthy. In the kitchen I found dirty dishes and cutlery, a dead fly on the floor, spiderwebs... I tried to talk to the manager to change rooms, but he replied that he was fully booked. We all decided to take a bath before going to sleep, there was no hot water for all of us. Hated it.

The hotel was in a lovely setting, and was exactly as described. The food was wonderful and alongside the excellent service it was a luxrious nights stay which is what we were looking for. The service was both extremely hospitable and professional without being overbearing. The accommodation was excellent and so comfortable both in our room and down stairs in the lounge and dining room. I loved having the ground coffee and a cafitiere in our room what a simple but great idea. For a small hotel it was pretty impressive. Many thanks.

Very comfortable, we had the flat and it was great. The river was beautiful. Only thing we found disheartening was that the dam in the online picture and waterfall were actually nowhere near the hotel and quite some drive away.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was excellent with a comfy bed. Breakfast although adequate was not of the standard we had expected (fried eggs overcooked and greasy mushrooms)

We needed somewhere on our planned route so we chose Carlton Riverside for its location, affordability and quaintness. Mary-Anne was both charming and eccentric and could not do enough for us. Our room which was a complimentary up-grade was spacious and beautiful. Breakfast was tasty and very enjoyable and the breakfast view was magnificent. We would readily recommend Carlton riverside to anybody. There was a problem with the plumbing in the Oriental suite that mad a horrible noise when the toilet was flushed or the bath emptied. It occurred spasmodically for a while then stopped. Not a huge upset

Breakfast start time was 09:00 and last order for evening meal was 20:00 however the hotel accomodated my early start. Restaurant prices were OTT (£17 for a single veg dish). This may explain why i was the only person in the restaurant.

Hotel chosen from the internet as I needed a place to stay for the night rather than travelling home after a day in Dorset and evening in Swansea. Hotel staff very nice and welcoming. Set up a table for me in the dining room and the meal and wine was excellent. The small cosy bar was well stocked and had an excellent choice of Scottish Malt Whiskies. A very nice breakfast, obviously freshly cooked with very nice bacon and grilled sausage with a choice of eggs cooked however you wanted them. Good ground coffee with just toasted toast. Well worth its place in the 2012 Good Food Guide.

My husband and I stayed with our 3 sons aged 17, 20 & 21 in the apartment at the top of the house. It was extremely comfortable, and had everything we needed. There was also plenty of room for all of us. We didn't eat at the restaurant due to other commitments, although we will do this another time - the menu looked very good. We did have breakfast there, and it was delicious, with locally sourced produce (bacon was amazing!) and home-made marmalade. The owner and staff were very friendly and accommodating. All in all - a lovely visit, and we would definitely stay here again. I cannot think of anything we disliked.

Not only was the room very nice, but the food was amazing. We have had the good fortune to eat at some of the best restaurants in the world and we found the meals at Carlton Riverside comparable if not better! Once the chef found out we were foodies she even designed a meal especially for us on our last night.

Lovely food. Worth going for the gourmet break when you get whatever food they wish to give you (having taken your wishes into account) , and appropriate wines.Alan Gilchrist is a generous host and not slow to top up your glass. A few youngsters chose to meet outside our room by the riverside and chatted until the small hours. I couldn't get cross with them as it was obvious there was nowhere for them to go.

Breakfast The apartment was furnished shabbily, Wallpaper peeling off in places. Doors did not latch & close properly. No shower but attachment that did not fit the taps, Tile missing around bath. No tea, coffee, milk sugar etc provided. Would never consider renting the apartment again in any circumstances.

Everything worked fine, the place does what it says on the tin. The 3-bedroom family "flat" is unrenovated, and has no shower
