The Guy Fawkes Inn stands next to York Minster and was the birthplace of the notorious plotter, Guy Fawkes. The Inn offers 4-star rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and home-cooked food.
Score from 465 reviews Very good
It was the most restful, lovely, well-run hotel I think i have ever stayed in. Impeccable.
No much to not like except the internet could use some help and you had to scramble to find plugs to recharge phones and tablets. But in a place like that, maybe you should just put them away.
Most of it! Especially the atmosphere, decor, etc
Traffic noise at night. Bar closing by 11pm (no late licence?).
Stayed 3 nights. Upgraded to a suite in courtyard. Very comfortable. Staff welcoming and most helpful. Public bus almost at door an excellent way to commute to city. Fantastic pool and spa.
The house and gardens ,decoration and founitures, fantasic bed and views from my room
the small, really small, bath.
Excellent value for money. Service was first class. The location was idyllic. Would have stayed longer if time had permitted.
Very helpful friendly staff and great service
Food expensive good quality but not good value
Peaceful, relaxing and beautiful surroundings, the staff are pleasant and the service is good.
The location is excellent, very peaceful and quite. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.
The evening menu was limited. The shower needed updating
Lovely surroundings. Extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Fabulous food.Comfortable bed. Nice walk along river into centre of York.
The setting, the fabulous food, the courtesy and kindness of all the staff, and their willingness to accommodate our requests even in difficult circumstances. Also the facilities of the Spa and, after all these years, the pleasant familiarity of the place. And, of course, the wonderful gardens! Health permitting, we'll certainly be back to this wonderful place. D.F. Sheffield.
Because this is a National Trust house there are serious limits as to what can be done; hence the location in the basement of the only cloakrooms in the main house, reached by a tiny lift, not always working well. Also, lighting kept fairly dim, often not sufficient for reading. But this will not stop us from coming back, health permitting.
Restaurant, pool, ambience
All the staff made us feel very welcome.. Wonderful settings.. Lovely rooms , food was great , we would come again ...
No tea and coffee in our room which would have been nice to have..
Perfect relaxation in sheer comfort.
Public rooms, grounds Staff and service Breakfast Wine list Car parking
Too near road for comfort and needs double glazing Room very hot and air- conditioning noticeable by its absence Restaurant expensive for what it offered
Almost everything.... The grounds buildings and spa facilities were incredible. ... it helped that the weather was wonderful. Breakfast was excellent!
My bed was on the very soft side so, having a bad back it didn't do me any favours... and whilst on the whole the room was spotless the ledge on the bath could have done with an extra scrub.
We have stayed here on a regular basis and always find the staff most accommodating
Location and hotel were perfect. Stunning building with excellent rooms and service
A little too pricey
Could not fault anything
The gardens, the pool and spa.
The rooms were very small, with little or no wardrobe space, which meant tripping over bags. The bathroom was the smallest I had ever encountered and its decor was very tired. The door into it was very narrow so that many people i know would struggle to enter. Afternoon tea at £18 a head and Champagne at £27 a glass reflected the general overpricing.
Reception and food were of an excellent standard. In fact the quality and presentation of meals was quite outstanding. The location so close to the city centre and in such tranquil surrounding was a very welcome surprise.
Difficult to find fault with such a well managed establishment!
Beautiful gardens to wander, and superb food.
Rooms in the annex were small, but very pretty with period furnishings and decorations. Beautiful gardens with 250 year old trees. Excellent sitting room in the main building.
very friendly staff, food was good for breadkfast and dinner. very English style of service, food and culture.
far away from tourist attraction for visitors but good for people to enjoy the English living culture.
Wonderful property. Like visiting a National Trust stately home where you CAN sit on the chairs! Stunning food in restaurant. Lovely gardens and park.
Homely and welcoming. Delicious food
