Kaligata Village, This tiny village, with its narrow alleyways and old houses, is set on the hillside in the midst of the fertile olive and citrus groves of the Livathos district, south of Argostoli and a short distance from the airport. The 18th century church with its impressive bell tower is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. From the village you have sweeping views over the sea. The area around the village is lush with wild flowers, olive groves and cypress trees. This quiet restful village has no shops or restaurants but there are a few in the neighbouring villages of Svoronata and Kourkemelata. The Livathos district with its many villages and secluded coves is an ideal place for a summer holiday. The majestic Mount Ainos rises up dramatically from the sea to the northeast and forms the natural boundaries of the district. Ever changing sea views create a panorama to the south while the castle of St. George, a relic of the centuries of Venetian rule, is a landmark at a lower level. Nearby are the popular sandy beaches of Ammes, Avythos and Ai-Chelis.
