And then when I realised I was a little ambitious about public transport given my luggage, again organised a
taxi to my dad's home village

Everything was great! My husband and I stayed here in February during winter and temperatures outside tend to be quite cold, but the hotel was warm and cozy, and you have control over the room temperature.. Very nice hotel with great location. Sulmona is absolutely amazing and is really worth the visit!

Maria Teresa made us feel very welcome, and provided us with a list of recommended restaurants, places to go, details of local buses etc. The room was cool, despite the heat outside. Her breakfast buffet included a massive array of local biscuits and cakes made by her. The B&B is a short, easy walk from the town centre - 10-15 minutes depending how fast you're prepared to walk. It's therefore very quiet.

A great place to stop at for a few days if you're travelling round Abruzzo. The train ride from Rome was very easy, and we were able to visit Lago di Scanno and Scanno itself by bus. Sulmona itself has a fantastic historic town centre with lots of little streets to explore. We enjoyed some great food and the most memorable ice creams ... And of course, lots of confetti Pellini! We hope to come back again next year!

Very positive.
Very positive. Surprisingly large, pleasant old section of city with down-to-earth charm. Hardly any tourists - too bad because Sulmona has an excellent, first rate tourist office. Spectacular, snow-capped mountains. In the heart of little-visited Abruzzo where amazing medieval castles abound. Has a must-go to restaurant called Clemente. People friendly and welcoming. We went for family research and stayed for the pleasure of the town & region. Just be sure you don’t stay at the bed & breakfast place called Villa Del Poeta! :)

Sulmona is a smallish town with a medieval center.
Sulmona is a smallish town with a medieval center. It is a fantastic base from which to take day trips to any of 3 national parks, the Adriatic Sea, and museums galore. If you’re interested in getting off the beaten path but maintaining high-end comforts, Sulmona is ideal. Bonus: there are at least 2 restaurants in town that have earned Michelin nods and stars (Gino’s and Clemente).

Nice quaint Italian city on route through Abruzzi.
Nice quaint Italian city on route through Abruzzi. Piazza with aqueduct and views nice. Market day was fun. Mountain views with a gelato nice and can’t forget some sweet confetti. A few hours is enough on a drive through stop.
The property has an interesting history of once being a convent which housed orphans. Its unique because of its beautiful exposed walls, rounded arches and spiral staircase. It feels like a cozy Italian apartment you’d want to own because of its close walking distance to the main Corso, restaurants/ bars and historical center. The apartment has a well stocked kitchens, two bathrooms and a cozy living room. Big bed and plenty of closet space. It’s decorated with pictures and feels like home away from home!
Spacious and clean. Anna and her family were most helpful. this was a lovely place to spend a couple of nights in Sulmona which was such a surprise of a town. The property is well-equipped and a sweet Italian style breakfast is provided. we also appreciated the washing machine so we could get some clothes clean. Comfy bed with lots of space. We walked about 15 minutes into the main square and loved watching everyone making the evening ‘passeggiata’.
We really enjoy travelling in Italy, and one of the many reasons for that is the quality of accomodation. This was a great find, a former monastery by Porta Napoli. A fine welcome, stunning courtyard and a great breakfast. And the staff went over and above. They couldn't do enough to make our stay good. And Mario (a.k.a Super Mario) rescued us with lifts in the torrential rain, not once, but twice. Grazie mille. Highly recommended.
A cute hotel a little outside the center of town. the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable. the elevator made it easy to get our bags to the room. There was also an excellent breakfast, and the staff took precautions, serving breakfast rather than having a buffet to reduce the impact of Covid. it was a short walk in to the old town and all the restaurants and the market (Wednesdays and Saturdays)
The host was very friendly and assisted us beyond the call of duty. An extra bed was provided to allow for an extra guest. He met us when we arrived, to share the keys and show the apartment. The apartment is spacious, very clean, very quite and situated in the centre of Sulmona with access to markets, restaurant and shops literally around the corner. The apartment is cleaned every day, with beds laid and fresh towels.
The hosts' assistant, Giorgina, was very prompt to help and advise us upon arrival and also later concerning a particular request of ours. The property was well equipped with all the essentials and was comfortable. It was also situated in close proximity to the centre of Sulmona.
I stayed here for a week while purchasing a home in Sulmona. It's a cosy and comfortable place that has everything you need. Super quiet neighborhood, and nice viewa of the mountains to the east. Antonio is an exceptional host, and was extremely helpful in every way
The house was spectacular. The photos don't do it justice. Antonella the owner was very sweet yet professional. Breakfast was abundant, the views down to the piazza were breathtaking. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a stay in Sulmona.
- Perfect location right in the center of Sulmona
- Really big room and suite
- Loved the bathtub in its own little nook
- Free parking (at the hotel about 8 min walk from the Guesthouse)
- Juice and coffee etc. at the (unmanned) lobby downstairs
Wonderful and characterful apartment right in the middle of the old town but quiet. The owner is very friendly and the apartment is fully equipped. There are some breakfast items left in the kitchen. Sulmona is a wonderful city to visit.
Eccezionale!
An exceptional place to stay in Sulmona. We spent 4 nights in a very welcoming B&B just outside the town centre.
The couple running the place were extremely helpful and friendly.
Highly recommended!
A family run hotel where everyone was super helpful. Great location in the old town. Lots of useful advice on what to see in the area. Made a booking for me to eat at a great local trattoria on my first night.
This hotel met our expectations! Room was great, location outstanding and the two brothers were extremely accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was absolutely delicious! We will return!
