We had a fantastic stay in Hotel della Piana. We stayed for 12 days at the hotel. The hotel is very good situated to visit Abruzzo. You are in the middle of all the National Parks and in 1 hour you are on the sea side. The people of the hotel are extremely friendly and helpful. They have some nice rooms, which were always clean. Also the breakfast is huge and very good. Their restaurant Napoleone is also recommended. Top hotel, many thanks to all people working there.

It is spotlessly clean, the landlady is great, she always makes sure your stay will be perfect, She is really helpful and kind and her partner is a gentleman who is very friendly and helpful, he also speaks good english which was great. The rooms have balconies all with a view. The facilities in room are excellent and the rooms are spotlessly clean and bright. There is a swimming pool which is fantastic with bar facilities. All the staff members here are friendly and they are also enthusiastic. There is some one at the reception at all times: so whatever time you roll in there is always someone there, you can use the bar anytime, which was great.

Unspoilt Nature and World-Class Wine

From the Apennines to the Adriatic, unspoilt nature is what the Abruzzo is all about. Between hilltop towns and sandy beaches are swathes of rolling countryside and magnificent mountains.

The capital L’Aquila is being rebuilt following the earthquake that sadly left a devastating mark. This city and the medieval hill town Teramo sit in the foothills of the Gran Sasso National Park. This fantastic park is home to a rare antelope, wolves and wild boar, the latter of which can be found alongside brown bears in the Abruzzo National Park further south.

Most Abruzzo National Park hotels and one of the 5-star Abruzzo hotels are in Pescasseroli, a top ski resort. Roccaraso is also popular for skiing. To the north, Sulmona gave birth to Ovid and ‘confetti’, sugared almonds that Italians present as gifts. Its largest square Piazza Garibaldi hosts several events.

To the north-east is Chieti, a lovely hilltop town with an archaeological museum detailing the region’s rich history. Its closest resort is Pescara, whose long, sandy beach is only interrupted by its large port. Another popular beach is at Vasto, just north of the Molise border.

We really enjoyed practically everything. The hotel is very nicely designed, very clean and has a nice location with a large clean pool. The rooms are designed differently depending on the level. So we stayed on the first floor. The staff is always very friendly. Parking is not a problem and free. The restaurant is very good, but the restaurants on the beach are also within short walking distance via the stairs to the bike route. Just a little thing: The last meters after the stairs from the hotel to the just before the bike street was uncomfortable to walk.

This was the second time we stayed here during winter, and we are definitely keeping this hotel among our favourite stops. Very secure parking, very nice personnel, location is great as it's close to many restaurants and right on the beach. The gym is nice with very good air circulation. They even provide towels and water. Our family room was actually two rooms, so double bathroom which is great. Breakfast is fresh and varied, with a beautiful view of the sea.

The hotel is ideally situated directly across from the beach, just a short walk from the harbor and the main shopping and dining areas. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The hotel also provides bicycles for guests, allowing you to explore the area along the spacious bike path that runs right outside.

not much to do in Pescara itself. we walk the city in about 4-5 hours and the next day we rented a car and drove to nearest cities to explore. in march still most of the restaurants and shops are closed and its not that warm.

Beautiful town that suffered a terrible hearthquake 19 yrs ago. They did a stellar job in reconstructing it, but one feels it is an odd, traumatised place: no kids around going to school in the morning because all schools are outside, no normal food shops (for a town of such importance), only jewelries, banks, clothing, house ware stuff (no greengrocers, meat, fish, cheese, alimentari). it is a mix of reconstructed places and building sites. A place to visit nonetheless

The streets of the city are very dirty. Paper, cigarette, butts, dog shit, vomit. For two weeks we have not seen the city streets cleaned. The main impression of the city is dirt, dirt and more dirt. To the point of nausea.

The weather was not on our side and the end of season meant that many of the local businesses were closed or had minimal manning. That said, we had a lovely time exploring and moving between the sea and mountain villages. Would definitely come back but earlier in the year next time.

Giulianova is a cozy town on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. The long coastline has many wonderful beaches with golden sand. The embankment along the sea is full of flowers. There are long, comfortable bike paths that are used by many visitors to the city. For lovers of antiquity, there is a beautiful center on the hill. Food, vine and relax are perfect in Giulianova.

Sulmona is a beautiful small town surrounded by mountains. We ate at 4 different restaurants in 3 days, and every meal was fantastic. I've been to Italy many times in recent years, but I haven't eaten such consistently delicious food in decades. I want to return to Abruzzo and experience more of the region, but I suspect that Sulmona is a very special place within Abruzzo. Next time I will come via car so I can explore nearby towns and parks and hiking opportunities.

We enjoyed daily walks along the lungomare from Alba Adriatica to Giulianova. Had we stayed longer, we would have walked the 3.3km up the hill (230m altitude) to Tortoreto Alto. There are many good restaurants and cafes.

Chieti is an ancient city going back 9000 years. The Greeks and Roman developed the city calling it Teate. The center has the quaint narrow streets and old buildings which give the city its charm. Chieti is a small city where you can escape the massive hordes of tourists you find in Florence and Venice. However the city allows you to have a real Italian experience. Rome is only a two hour drive away. There is the natural aspect Chieti. The Gran Sasso are enormous mountains. There are forests and hiking trails. The Abbruzzese are some of the friendliest Italians in Italy. Fifteen minutes away is the Metropolitan city of Pescara and the Adriatic Sea. Chieti does have many things to offer in a unique and prime location.

San Vito Chietino is a beautiful little town in Abruzzo region, The marina has cafe's, restuarants and easy access to the sea. San Vito Chietino upper area, (Colle) is quiet and offers beautiful views of the mountains and the sea. Easy access to the highway. A great place to visit

I loved how quiet and Italian the city of Ortona was.

I loved how quiet and Italian the city of Ortona was. Loved how there were barely any tourists and how very little other languages were heard except Italian. Ortona made me feel like I was actually in Italy!
