Capital with a Small Town Feel
Charming and compact Bratislava is the world’s only capital city bordering 2 countries – Austria and Hungary, all watered by the beautiful River Danube. South is the modern city and a peaceful forest, but the real Bratislava attractions are over Novy most (New Bridge), an impressive structure with an UFO-like pylon. The castle on a rock overlooking the Old Town offers the best views of it. The rock itself contains a Jewish cemetery and a literally underground club.
Opposite is St Martin’s Cathedral, coronation site of past Hungarian kings. The cobbled streets behind are lined with outdoor restaurants and bars. The city’s speciality is treska, a cold cod salad, washed down with white wine from the nearby Small Carpathian mountains.
The main square is Hlavne namestie, home to pastel-coloured buildings, a 14th-century town hall housing the city museum, and the Bratislava Christmas markets. Hodzovo namestie square features the Peace Earth sculpture and Baroque Grassalkovich Palace, the presidential residence guarded by the Slovak National Guard. Across the park is the Archiepiscopal Palace, seat of the government. All around are many Bratislava hotels, B&Bs and apartments available on Booking.com.
Before heading to Bratislava Airport, visit Kamzìk TV tower whose revolving restaurant and observation deck offer magnificent city views.

Mukavan "pieni", Slovakian pääkaupunki, Wienin lentokentältä tunnin matka bussilla. Hintataso vähintäänkin kohtuullinen Suomeen verrattuna, kaiken kaikkiaan kiva matkakohde. Edellisestä käynnistä olikin jo kulunut yli 45 vuotta. Kannattaa pistäytyä !

Julkinen liikenne toimii hyvin ja on edullinen. Kannattaa kokeilla taksin sijaan jos tarvitsee liikkua vanhankaupungin ulkopuolelle! Vanhakaupunki on kokonaan varattu kävelijöille, joka takaa ihanan rauhallisen tunnelman. Paljon ravintoloita ja matkamuistomyymälöitä, joten jos kaipaa jotain muuta ostettavaa, kannattaa suunnistaa vanhankaupungin ulkopuolelle. Syyskuussa vielä mukavan lämmintä, mutta pahimmat turistimassat ovat jo kaikonneet. Kannattaa kiivetä linnalle katsomaan näköalaa kaupunkiin. Itse linnaan on pääsymaksu, mutta puistoalueelle pääsee ilmaiseksi. Mitä en suosittele? Kehuttua Flagship-ravintolaa, jota mainostetaan paljon ja joka on yllätyksekseni saanut hyvät arvosanat eri paikoissa. Jos tykkäät meluisasta turistirysästä, mene ihmeessä, mutta jos kaipaat vain paikallista ruokaa, löytyy sitä monesta muustakin paikasta taatusti miellyttävämmässä miljöössä!
