The location to the city was ideal. It's one of the more inexpensive hotels in the city, so do not expect luxury. As a 21-year-old wanting to travel to a niche country, it fit all of my expectations :)
Located opposite Dili Beach, Beach Garden Hotel offers free Wi-Fi, free parking and free buffet breakfast. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center and a self-service laundry.

many attributes. nearly zero insects, ...no mosquitos or roaches, only a few ants. everyone there was friendly, including staff and other guests. Tiny white buses (#10) get a person to and from downtown. Can rent motorcycle for $15/day but remember: left side of the road.

Dili is easy to get around and there is plenty to see particularly if you are interested in East Timor's recent history, you can see where tragic events in the liberation struggle happened and the museums are well presented.
There are excellent beaches, good places to eat with local food at reasonable prices.
Try to get to the moonlight cinema on Friday night-you can sit by the beach and have a meal while watching a film.

Fantastic .I had a great time.
Fantastic .I had a great time. Could have stayed much longer and checked out more places and looked around more. The history of this place is off the scale and at times very confronting. The people were very friendly to us and surprised to see us travelling on the microlets.Which the easiest and best way to get around the city. Otherwise you pay a fortune in taxis. As an Australian the exchange rate at the time was woeful .Was a bit expensive as all in US dollars.

Make sure you take enough cash in $US, it’s very hard to find a place that takes credit cards (and if so it’s VISA only) and there don’t seem to be any foreign exchange places. Global roaming doesn’t work either.

Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights over Easter 2023.
Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights over Easter 2023. It was a great place to wind down - walked up to the Cristo Rei statue, all of 570 steps, well worth it. Visited the Santa Cruz Cemetery - sadly not much signage about the massacre in 1991 - however can read up on the internet before going there. Went to Areia Beach, beautiful soft, clean white sand - suitable for swimming. Also visited the Timor Plaza Shopping Centre to buy a simcard and phone credit to call the blue taxi as required. Stayed at the Plaza Hotel (not the one at the Shopping Centre, there is one closer to the seaside). Accommodation was safe, clean and comfortable with a Chinese restaurant adjoining the accommodation - meal times are very flexible. Loved the lush tropical vegetation and the mountains and sea, stunning scenery. It's easy to see that Dili is still developing, great improvements in infrastructure, services and business will no doubt forge ahead in the future. I would recommend Dili for solo travellers, safe to walk around in the day time.

Dili is a fantastic get away from Darwin.
Dili is a fantastic get away from Darwin. For food buffers that are many restaurants offering culturally diverse dishes such as Timorese, Chinese, Portuguese etc. I particularly, enjoy the beachside restaurants along Areia Branco, towards Cristo Rei area for breakfast or lunch and happy hour on Friday nights at Timor Plaza. If you're there over a weekend, try a day trip over to Atauro Island and for longer stays, a trip to climb Mt Ramelau or to Jaco Island to see endangered species of turtles.

Dili is a beautiful coastal city, for those who loves religious spots you will find many fabulous spots here. For examples, Cristo Rei, the second world biggest Christ statue after Brazil. When visiting Cristo Rei, you need to prepare yourself for trekking the stairs, there will be around 850s steps to conquer, and you need to pace them constantly. Hmm, Once you reach the top, your sweat will get rewards. The view is fabulous! Have a try :)
This hotel has some historical significance during colonial period. Now it is very well maintained neat hotel with large rooms and huge TVs. After check-in they bring Wi-Fi router to your room for the best connection. I had a problem activating my SIM-card and staff spent 25 minutes assisting me with that, appreciate it!
There are 2 restaurants just beside the hotel - so don't worry looking for a food there. Breakfast is in one of them.
Price is the best in Dili, literally.
The duplex is in a good location, easy walking distance to shopping and tourist sites. you won’t believe how comfortable and spacious it is. The pictures are an adequate portrayal of what you will be getting. You will not be more comfortable anywhere else in Dili.
The owner Norman is the greatest. He’s well educated, knows a lot about the world and is as honest as they come. I feel like he is a brother and he made my trip to Timor Leste a memorable one.
Well, East Timor has a worst price-performance ratio. This hotel is a typical example. The rooms are relatively large, but need a renovation and a proper cleaning. There is lime in the bathroom and mosquitoes everywhere. Actually, I paid 20 percent of the price in Bali for a much better hotel on my later trip. Let me put it straight, I am most annoyed about the price, not about lime in bathroom or mosquitoes.
However, staff is really friendly.
The Excelsior must have been a great hotel in its time, but after 2 years of covid, its battling: the breakfast is good, otherwise they are efficient at room service. But i missed a sitting room where one can have a drink for example. Also, for us as private tourists, we found that its a little too far from the cbd and main attractions of Dili. Otherwise the Excelsior is good value for money, and the staff is very helpfull.
The rooms are spacious and well maintained given the geographical location of Timor. Cindy the owner was extremely nice and welcoming. The food is okayish and they do offer free pickup and drop to the airport. There’s a beach in front of the hotel but i don’t think one can swim there, sunset and sunrise can be enjoyed though. Overall value for money.
I liked the backpacker vibe. It's a certain type of person that travels to Timor Leste, and almost everyone I met was ticking the country off their country count but were still interested in the culture and activities. Nice vibe! The private room was a nice size and had nice air conditioning! They also helped set up my SIM card which was really nice.
The hotel has hot water, fridges and ACs that work. The location in the city centre is excellent. The staff washed my clothes with same-day delivery for a 5 dollar fee.
(EDIT: in response to the query below, I am not 100% sure what day my laundry was delivered, but I think it was the 24th of December. I definitely paid a 5-dollar fee.)
I enjoyed my stay in Arbiro, the staff were friendly, reliable and willing to accommodate my requests. The hotel driver took me pick me up from several place while in Dili. The restaurant attended to my request in the last minute to cook. The accommodation very comfortable. The location is great, far from the traffic and noises.
Good hotel to stay to launch our trip to Atauro, Ramelau and Jaco. We were able to store our luggage from time to time, and staff are always helpful to attend to our needs. It has a restaurant with good view, and the shops and food court nearby are convenient to get supplies for our trips. Glad we picked this hotel!
The villas are well maintained and clean, water, power and wifi were available and reliable. There is also a restaurant in the premise where you can get good food. Timor Plaza and other supermarkets are within walking distance. They can also organize for a drop at the airport
Location is perfect, right beside main landmarks. Reception staff is very very friendly, helped with everything and always available. Breakfast has a large choice and available a bit early.
Rooms are large and design of the hotel is in some national style.
Nice place with character charm and friendly helpful staff. Breakfast was good and cafe next door (part of the hotel) is amazing. Staff were helpful and looked after our bags after we checked out before we had to go to the airport.
Hotel is located above shopping center and many restaurants. Breakfast is great, plenty choices. Room size is spacious. Bathroom is ok. Easy to call taxi. All staffs are friendly and helpful. Great hotel for Timor Leste.
There were lots of young people learning the hospitality trade which is a fantastic initiative for Timor.
The breakfast was great.
The room was clean, cool and comfortable
Location is excellent. In fact you can walk to Timor Lodge from the airport and if you want to, you can walk to the only mall in Dili (Timor Plaza) as well.
Breakfast has always been very good , fresh fruit , n choices of excellent.menu.
Like room's cleanliness n hotel's atmosphere of Portuguese's heritage.
