Dili is easy to get around and there is plenty to see particularly if you are interested in East Timor's recent history, you can see where tragic events in the liberation struggle happened and the museums are well presented.
There are excellent beaches, good places to eat with local food at reasonable prices.
Try to get to the moonlight cinema on Friday night-you can sit by the beach and have a meal while watching a film.

Fantastic .I had a great time.
Fantastic .I had a great time. Could have stayed much longer and checked out more places and looked around more. The history of this place is off the scale and at times very confronting. The people were very friendly to us and surprised to see us travelling on the microlets.Which the easiest and best way to get around the city. Otherwise you pay a fortune in taxis. As an Australian the exchange rate at the time was woeful .Was a bit expensive as all in US dollars.

Make sure you take enough cash in $US, it’s very hard to find a place that takes credit cards (and if so it’s VISA only) and there don’t seem to be any foreign exchange places. Global roaming doesn’t work either.

Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights over Easter 2023.
Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights over Easter 2023. It was a great place to wind down - walked up to the Cristo Rei statue, all of 570 steps, well worth it. Visited the Santa Cruz Cemetery - sadly not much signage about the massacre in 1991 - however can read up on the internet before going there. Went to Areia Beach, beautiful soft, clean white sand - suitable for swimming. Also visited the Timor Plaza Shopping Centre to buy a simcard and phone credit to call the blue taxi as required. Stayed at the Plaza Hotel (not the one at the Shopping Centre, there is one closer to the seaside). Accommodation was safe, clean and comfortable with a Chinese restaurant adjoining the accommodation - meal times are very flexible. Loved the lush tropical vegetation and the mountains and sea, stunning scenery. It's easy to see that Dili is still developing, great improvements in infrastructure, services and business will no doubt forge ahead in the future. I would recommend Dili for solo travellers, safe to walk around in the day time.

Dili is a fantastic get away from Darwin.
Dili is a fantastic get away from Darwin. For food buffers that are many restaurants offering culturally diverse dishes such as Timorese, Chinese, Portuguese etc. I particularly, enjoy the beachside restaurants along Areia Branco, towards Cristo Rei area for breakfast or lunch and happy hour on Friday nights at Timor Plaza. If you're there over a weekend, try a day trip over to Atauro Island and for longer stays, a trip to climb Mt Ramelau or to Jaco Island to see endangered species of turtles.

Dili is a beautiful coastal city, for those who loves religious spots you will find many fabulous spots here. For examples, Cristo Rei, the second world biggest Christ statue after Brazil. When visiting Cristo Rei, you need to prepare yourself for trekking the stairs, there will be around 850s steps to conquer, and you need to pace them constantly. Hmm, Once you reach the top, your sweat will get rewards. The view is fabulous! Have a try :)
The hotel is located centrally close to the coastline. Amenities are adequate, facility clean, what impressed me the most are the attentiveness and helpfulness of the staff.
I accidentally left my adapter at the airport. The front desk staff immediately lent me one. I inquired about renting a motorcycle, the resourceful staff recommended an excellent company. Whatever request I had, they had an answer or a solution.
I love this hotel and would highly recommend it.
The duplex is in a good location, easy walking distance to shopping and tourist sites. you won’t believe how comfortable and spacious it is. The pictures are an adequate portrayal of what you will be getting. You will not be more comfortable anywhere else in Dili.
The owner Norman is the greatest. He’s well educated, knows a lot about the world and is as honest as they come. I feel like he is a brother and he made my trip to Timor Leste a memorable one.
For Dili, this was a very comfortable place to stay. Clean and spacious rooms with good air conditioning. The staff were lovely and helpful, easy to organise airport pick up and taxis. Rooms cleaned daily and bottled water provided. The wifi was good when it was on - does go off at times (which I think is beyond the hotels control). Good restaurants on the street - Pro Ema, Fatima cafe, Win Myint - and supermarket a few mins walk.
The Excelsior must have been a great hotel in its time, but after 2 years of covid, its battling: the breakfast is good, otherwise they are efficient at room service. But i missed a sitting room where one can have a drink for example. Also, for us as private tourists, we found that its a little too far from the cbd and main attractions of Dili. Otherwise the Excelsior is good value for money, and the staff is very helpfull.
Considering Timor Leste's standards, this hostel is a very reasonable choice. It's definitely not the most comfortable accommodation, but it is quite cheap compared to other options in the city, and above everything else the people working there are very helpful: they clearly went out of their way to help me out with whatever issue I had. This hostel absolutely feels like the place where a backpacker should stay in Dili.
No breakfast but I could use my kitchenette and refrigerator to make my own. That was fine. The location is great, at the culdesac of a small street of family homes and lots of friendly happy children running about, chickens, dogs and even a goat!! Not far from beach, lots of dining options but away from the 'flashy' hotels so not expensive. Transport was nearby at any rate so easy to get anywhere you need to go.
The rooms are spacious and well maintained given the geographical location of Timor. Cindy the owner was extremely nice and welcoming. The food is okayish and they do offer free pickup and drop to the airport. There’s a beach in front of the hotel but i don’t think one can swim there, sunset and sunrise can be enjoyed though. Overall value for money.
The build quality, amenities, large tv screen and Netflix, separate bathrooms, back up generator, comfortable beds and bedding, air-conditioners and fans, ventilation vents, cleanliness and full stock of condiments in the kitchen in a prime location mean one of the best stays for price in Dili. Also a great host.
The villas are well maintained and clean, water, power and wifi were available and reliable. There is also a restaurant in the premise where you can get good food. Timor Plaza and other supermarkets are within walking distance. They can also organize for a drop at the airport
Excellent location, given the current conditions of other accommodation suppliers at the same range in Dili, Timor Hotel is pretty good! The stay was so comfortable. Breakfast offers quite limited options but fresh and with good hygiene.
The location to the city was ideal. It's one of the more inexpensive hotels in the city, so do not expect luxury. As a 21-year-old wanting to travel to a niche country, it fit all of my expectations :)
delicious cupcakes
location near supermarket and restaurants
they have rest very fancy
nice reception guy
hair salon inside
is an school and hotel
free transfer from airport
Location is excellent. In fact you can walk to Timor Lodge from the airport and if you want to, you can walk to the only mall in Dili (Timor Plaza) as well.
Breakfast has always been very good , fresh fruit , n choices of excellent.menu.
Like room's cleanliness n hotel's atmosphere of Portuguese's heritage.
