Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaTwo complaints: 1. The sofa bed was unusable. 2. You could hear every step of anyone in the apartment above you.
Great host! The apartment was in a great location, overlooking the city. It has a nice balcony to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.

United States of AmericaThis has nothing to do with the actual Hostel but the stairs at the end of Hector Calvo were very seedy and felt very dangerous at night. Easy to avoid and I would suggest doing so, particularly if travelling alone.
The view from our room was spectacular. The location was good and our host Mauricio spoked very good English and was receptive to our needs. The vibe was laid back, private and luxurious for the price.

The best place I ever had In Valpo. Great view from my balcony, 180 degrees. Spacious room, good shower, small kit hen. Free coffee and tea. And rhe location is near to down town as well as up the hill. Ascensor nearby. Short walk to the metro. And last not least Mauricio is a really nice host who speaks English well and provides you with info.

United States of AmericaNothing!
This stay was so good! Our favorite place we have stayed in. The view from the window of the harbor was truly special and the rooms feel large and spacious. The property itself is maybe 3 minutes walk from a busy street that connects you to all the places you’d want to see. Mauricio is a wonderful host (though maybe the real host is the wonderful, sweet kitten who greeted us) and was attentive to what we needed and helped plan what we should see in the city. He clearly loves this work and meeting people and it was great to meet him. Excellent place for a ridiculously low price. If we return to Valparaiso we will rebook.

Good location close to the other attractions, I counted the stairs to get up to the front gate - 155 😂) It has microwave and a mini oven available for everyone to use. The owner was friendly and spoke good english. Our room has a very good view of the seaside

United States of AmericaNo complaints - everything was as advertised. Simply noting that the rate does not include breakfast, nor a common space to connect with other guests. Plan to pay in cash!
A few highlights: great location - close to La Sebastiana and walkable to Cerros Alegre and Concepcion; the room and private bathroom were super clean, and the view on clear days was just what I hoped it would be. This was a welcome break from hostels! I booked specifically because I read that the host gives great advice - which is absolutely true.

United States of AmericaThis is a minor thing, but I needed to do some remote work while there. The wifi was very strong in the bedroom but did not reach the kitchen table. I was able to work from the other parts of the room however, so it was all good.
Everything was excellent. Mauricio is a great host & has lots of funny stories. The location is very central to Valparaiso and the other hills, as long as you don't mind stairs (no funicular near this hill). This room was exactly what I was hoping for! Good size, plenty of space, small kitchen, comfortable bed, nice view.

GermanyNothing to complaint, only thing to slightly improve could be the cleanliness of the room (e.g. floor)
Mauricio, the host of this Accommodation is exceptional. He was able to adapt to the needs of the guests and acted as a guide with a lot recommendations even beyond what your guides tell. he has been a globetrotter himself. super easygoing and always helpful with super simple communication, which makes it a super pleasant stay. Good Location to explore Valparaíso though you need to climb some stairs to get there (very common in Valparaiso) the place has everything you need incl small kitchen und laundry on demand. also the view from the room was amazing.

Hong KongThe quilt is not comfortable.
The location is good, take 30mins walk from bus terminal. It's should go up a long stairs, that's alright for we didn't bring our big luggages. The host can speak fluent in English who is very nice sharing the way to explore the city.

United States of AmericaThe crumbling interior and steep stairway access may not be everyone's cup of tea
If you want sweeping views of the city and harbor and personalized tips on what to see and do--and you are able to walk up and down many flights of stairs to get here -- then this is your place!! Mauricio was full of useful information & helped us plan every day's outing in detail. The furnishings are basic but met all our needs.

Australiafor us this was fine, but probably not a place for solo travellers for two reasons - there is no common area in the guesthouse to meet anyone, and the nearby steps down to the main city are used as an outside bar ( which Mauricio helpfully warned us about). we felt safe (as a couple) but I’m not sure I would if a solo. And, in the morning, you have to dodge the bottles, broken glass, cigarette ends and other detritus…and hold your nose. Friday and Saturday nights mean clubbing (not us!!) but the impact was music till 5am… not super loud but enough to keep us awake. (but we don’t use earplugs). nothing the Mauricio/ the guesthouse can do about either of these issues but forewarned is forearmed.
Mauricio, the host, is a gem. welcoming and friendly and very keen to make sure you enjoy your time in Valpo. he gave us loads of advice about where to go and how to get there. our room with balcony and view was great - spacious after quite a lot of cramped double rooms. enjoyed having the fridge and stove top just for basic cooking. comfy bed.

United States of AmericaIt can get quite cold at night and I couldn’t figure out how to use the heater (I should have checked that earlier). The property is located along steep streets (I’m assuming this is true for most other establishments) and it would have been difficult to bring luggage up there if I hadn’t ubered I however had no issues finding the location from the Uber drop of. Access to downtown is through a back alley that looks shady and unclean and may not appear to be the safest at night but I had no issues getting back alone at 10 pm.
located in a quiet street , the property is exactly as advertised which is rare when it comes to listing. the view from the balcony makes this place completely worth the price. The owner Mauricio was super helpful.

United States of AmericaThe kitchen in our apartment was a bit disappointing--minimally equipped, very small. and no hot water in the kitchen sink for washing dishes. Because the apartment was just below the common room used by other guests, it was often noisy in the evening.
Mauricio was exceptionally helpful both before and during our stay. He offered helpful suggestions about modes of travel and things to see and do. He responded promptly to requests and was available and open throughout our stay.
