If the water is not working, it's the water pump. You need to ask at the front desk. It's OK that water is not always available, but we had to ask twice to have someone over to restart the water pump. It did work afterwards. Do it otherwise, the water will not work properly. Some of the facilities didn't work, like the coffee maker, we helped ourselves and mentioned it at the front desk, didn't help. The breakfast was rather limited, in comparison to where had stayed (for less). Staff was available more than I had read about.

We liked the pool and the location. It was close enough to the beach, maybe a 5 minutes walk. The room was big and the aircon worked perfectly. We liked our stay and would book it again. The bed was very comfortable.

It felt a little bit like a ghost town. We only ever saw one family the whole two days. Some people might love this fact, but it felt kind of deserted and boring by the pool/bar/etc. We also were disappointed that the one time we would have had a chance to swim in the pool (we were only there for 2 nights), they spent half the day fixing it (it turned green and foamy). The internet was very very slow, which is fine because we are on vacation, but if someone was expecting to get any work on their laptop done, it might have been difficult for them.

The hotel is gorgeous and in a great area--close to downtown (5 min walk) but far enough that it feels private and less noisy. Note: if you are not physically able to walk on the bumpy roads with a slight hill, this is not the best place and you should probably book at a hotel on the main streets (we are in our 20's so we were more than happy to do the very short walk each day/night). They allowed us to check in 2 hours early for free, which was a huge bonus! The breakfasts are very filling and good. The room was HUGE! We felt very comfortable there and really enjoyed having a mini fridge, microwave, and a safe. It was nice to have our own balcony too, because we were able to put our wet bathing suits and towels outside on the balcony chairs to dry. It also made it feel very private.

They had no comfortable furniture around the pool, so it made lounging impossible.

The staff is helpful and nice, and the rooms were well appointed. And it’s a short walk to the beach

The shower in the room was terrible, there was no power what so ever, it felt like it was just dribbling out. The swimming pool was much smaller than the pictures show. Furthermore, the pictures on booking.com is quite deceiving as it makes the hotel look very spacious outside but it's not, it is very closed off. Furthermore, our room showed a balcony but it's not, it's just chairs outside our room right opposite a wall. The price of the hotel is a lot more than what you get for the place. The hotel is quite basic, therefore I felt like we over paid quite a bit for the place. However, Costa Rica is now stupidly expensive that you can barely afford anything anymore, and I'm from London, so that's saying something.

The staff were very friendly and nice, always willing to help. When we got to the room, we were greeted with a nice welcome sign, popcorn and chocolates. The room was very big, air con worked perfectly and we even had a big fridge freezer in our room so we could keep cold water and left over food. The bathroom was spacious too. The breakfast was very good and had a nice amount of choice. Furthermore, it was close to the centre so we could literally just walk a few minutes and we were there. On the first day we saw howler monkeys too and that made the stay cool! They have a gym and a play area to relax at too.

The room was very nicely designed and furnished. A/C system was quiet and efficient. The pool area was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was provided in this area as well. There is an exercise room that has a variety of reasonably good equipment along with rental bikes.

I was disappointed that no one was working the pool bar when we were there. It appeared to be open, but I never saw anyone to order from until staff came out to put away the supplies at closing time. If there was a sign for how to flag attention, I missed it.

The main street of Tamarindo can be very busy, hot and dusty. Hotel Luna Llena is a cool and quiet little oasis tucked away with an easy walk to the beach. Great A/C, lovely pool, tasty breakfast, friendly staff, huge bathroom. We only stayed one night, but I would have happily stay more.

It was so BRIGHT at night making it hard to sleep as it felt like daylight all night long due to outdoor lights. Black out curtains would be helpful or a light switch to at least the patio light.

The shower was big but the actual head wasn’t great. Would have liked actual towels rather than microfibre towels for the rooms. Pool had a swim up bar but the bar wasn’t ever open.

Lovely quiet area but also right in the centre of town so easy access to the beach, shops and restaurants. Family friendly with pool toys and garden games. Nice big room and a lovely pool. Good choice at breakfast.
