Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThat the neighbor's cat wasn't allowed to hang out in our casita, but we sat on the patio with Eric so I guess that's ok. :)
We loved having our own casita, and the grounds were like walking in a botanical garden. Our hosts were lovely, including the furry four-legged one. They had plenty of suggestions for dinner. He in particular was a fountain of knowledge about the area and the country's history. They're willing to help arrange rental cars, guided excursions, etc. Next time we come to Costa Rica we'll stay here on our initial arrival vs just before leaving!

United States of AmericaWish there was a fan in the room just to keep some air circulating. Loved the place otherwise.
They were so accommodating when we arrived later than expected. We had to order dinner to be delivered and our hosts set a table for us to enjoy it. We had an early flight the next day and our hosts packed a delicious breakfast to go for us and our two kids. They also arranged a taxi to pick us up the morning of our flight. Service was above and beyond!

United States of AmericaWe loved our stay and breakfast so much! The one item to improve would be the warmth of shower water (if it is an option to do so).
We were all delighted when the owner, Bernie, opened the property gate and welcomed us into this gorgeous garden oasis! We spent our first and last nights in Costa Rica here. The breakfast was fresh, delicious and so fun! Bernie was a fantastic host and has a deep knowledge of the place and lore that he will share if invited to. The views from the room are so beautiful, and the hammocks in the garden are lovely. Coffee and outdoor dining space are great. We loved it and would love to return!

United States of AmericaPura Vida is an oasis in the midst of a somewhat chaotic and bustling city. The second you go through the main gate, you realized that you have entered a special place. The grounds are beautiful and full of Costa Rican flora including a wide vast variety of orchids. The casitas are nested within the beautiful garden with some outstanding views to the mountains and Poas Volcano. The casitas are simple but ample and have everything you need for your stay. Berni and his wife are excellent hosts. Berni provided great recommendations for local restaurants and places to visit near the hotel. It was also great to talk to him about his experience as an expat living in Costa Rica. The rate included breakfast. By far the best fruit presentation I have ever seen!! and delicious yogurt, granola and bread was served. Every detail at Pura Vida is designed to transport you outside of your routine and remind you about what makes Costa Rica so special! We strongly recommended Pura Vida Hotel and will definitely stay here again during our next trip to Paradise.

United States of AmericaI cannot think of anything that could be improved.
Our stay at Pura Vida was one of the most memorable of my entire life. This trip was my first visit outside of the country that I was born in, and Pura Vida Hotel was the first place I've stayed outside of the USA. Bernie started communicating with me via email immediately after I made my reservation. He offered the best advice on places of interest in Costa Rica and patiently answered all my questions, some of which I'm sure he probably thought were ridiculous. He also arranged for Alamo to deliver a rental car to us the morning after we arrived. His and Nhi's place is breathtakingly beautiful, and it has the best "Zen vibe" I've ever experienced. Nhi's meals were superb as well, and both she and Bernie were the perfect hosts, entertaining us with stories of Costa Rican history while we dined with the other guests. I would recommend Pura Vida Hotel to anyone who wants to experience the best of Costa Rica!

United States of AmericaThe mattress was a little firm for my taste.
I enjoyed my cabina so much I just wanted to hang out there. I had more than enough privacy from the other cabinas. The grounds are lush with tropical plants and home to many interesting birds. My breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt & granola, bread pudding, and eggs was amazing. Bernie is very personable, helpful, and a wealth of knowledge. It’s the perfect place to land if you’re coming from or going to SJO. I will be returning.

United States of AmericaWe loved Pura Vida Hotel. It was a lovely oasis, with beautiful grounds that are meticulously cared for. Berni was engaging and funny and made some great recommendations (Especially for a dinner out our first night). Breakfast, which is included, was a wonderful bowl of local fresh fruit, yogurt and granola, some amazing freshly baked banana bread, and lively conversation with Berni. If you are looking for a unique stay that really introduces the flora and fauna of Costa Rica, and is close to the airport, stay here!!!
