The decor in the rooms was a little old fashioned, but it does also add to the character. Quite expensive, but it is worth it.

One of the best hotels I've stayed in. The best feature by far for us was the pool/outdoor area - the properly heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool and outdoor hot tub were perfect for enjoying the views of the black forest around you. The lawn with comfortable sunbeds was also great for reading, sunbathing and relaxing. The restaurant was good, a reasonable number of vegetarian options, lovely atmosphere with excellent service. Rooms were big, with wonderful balconies and ours had a peaceful green view. Really, really didn't want to leave and would love to stay here again.

Although I am aware of culture differences the food for the dinner for the price could be improved.

The property is amazing. I stayed in the chalet which I consider a must! I had an incredible time and the views were really great.

Our parents that were travelling with us had a smaller room (which was booked like this for purpose, as there was only two of them, and three of us - together with our daughter), however the bed in their room was surprisingly small - more a single than a double bed. We took a child dish for our daughter at dinner, and were surprised it came with a small "gummi bärchen" package. It ended up being her first time trying this German delicacy ;) (she is 2.5 years old), but we would have preferred to make this choice with regards to the sweets served to our kid (especially, as it is advertised as a wellness hotel).

This hotel exceeded our expectations. We were simply looking for a night somewhere halfway between Europapark and Stuttgart in a hotel, which would have a pool and good cuisine. But this find is such a gem! The spa area: numerous saunas and hammams (we were travelling with a small child, so did not get a chance to visit any, but it was really impressive), several swimming pools, jacuzzi - as the hotel was not fully booked, we had it all basically to ourselves. Restaurant: dinner was great, but breakfast was even better (it rated top five of the breakfasts we had in a hotel, and we do travel a lot) - they even have a special room dedicated to juicing! Extra positive surprises: a simple lunch was included in the room rate (we had no idea), there was a small bathrobe and matching slippers for our small child ready in the room, there was even a changing mat and bin for nappies in the room when we arrived!

Beautiful place, exceptionally clean, friendly staff, lots of possibilities irrespective of the weather. We had a large room with a balcony with a nice view. The breakfast and five course dinner were divine. I would go there again anytime.

Parking was a bit of a challenge. I didn't care for the Muzak in the halls and dining rooms, or the 90s era playlist in the bar. The carpet in our room is probably due for replacement, but that's not a big deal.

We really enjoyed the kind staff at Hotel Engel Obertal, as well as the beautiful surroundings. Our room was very large and comfortable, and we had a huge balcony. We also enjoyed the bar. I loved all of the pretty flowers outside that were so well tended. Wait staff in the restaurant were attentive and friendly.

We were taken to the wrong room which was a little frustrating as it was amazing, and then not ours! The room we ended up with was lovely with balcony but they teased us little by accident. Dinner was also slightly disappointing for the money.

Breakfast was terrific! Outside bar area is great and the pools are just wonderful!

Rooms would gain to be refreshed... decorum is old fashion...nevertheless the spa area and the bar and some other area have been refreshed already and design is very nice. So overall the hotel looks nice.

The environnement, the hicking way from the hotel, the spa area, different swimming pools, price for the food, the employees., breakfast..the natural swimming pool is priceless.

Great room with a good view. Very comfortable stay. Food was good. Would recommend the cheesecake and the black forest Cake. Absolutely worth it. The spa is really good. I would definitely do the pedicure!!!!

Chalets have no air condition and its very hot at day, and not comfortable to sleep at night. Also, most of the activities and staff speak only german no english translation for all booklets and guides. Breakfast was great but lunch and dinner not really good.

The Engel Obertal hotel is beautifully located in the upper end of a sunny valley. We (3) stayed for four nights in 2 rooms. One room faced the road in front of the “Stammhaus” and was noisy at times, especially between 5 and 6:30am when either lorries passed or the early hotel delivery guys yelled at each other. The second room was housed in a different complex and quiet. The wellness area and the surrounding garden are fantastic and tranquil. Really enjoyable. The breakfast is relatively extensive and of good quality. The lunch, which is included, is okay. We had dinner at the hotel only on the last evening as we wanted to explore other restaurants in the neighbourhood. Pricing is fair and some of our dishes were good. My entrecôte was terrible as 2/3 were pure fat and I just left it on the plate. Even the waiter commented negatively on this piece of meat. But it still was included in the bill. Unfortunately, I was not at the table when my family paid. The complimentary water bottle in the room was a bit of a surprise as it was not replaced when empty, but perhaps this was a one off only. It is not about the money, it is about the experience and we had two, three issues to raise during our stay. A pity that we got the impression that the staff just doesn’t care. Having said this the staff is nice, but a more customer centric approach would be appreciated. Overall, I had a good time, but for five stars it requires a bit more work and service.
