Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Had to pay for childrens breakfast (2 x 9,5 euro) at check-out time even though breakfast was included in the main bill. Apparently "breakfast included" is only for the adults and not the children. Its really weird to have breakfast included for only the adults and not the children. They said it was because booking.com did not work properly which I find really really odd to say. They also said its written at the booking.com page if you scroll down to the bottom, which is correct - but it is formulated as this is what breakfast costs, if you don't have it included in the main bill and not as something you must always pay. Its a little amount of money but still it still really bothered me that instead of a quick check-out we had to handle bills and payment and explanation at the counter and I felt a bit cheated and scammed. We have been on 10-15 hotels within the last 12 months and this is the first time we encountered this annoying extra bill at checkout, so its definitely an ibis Hotel Hamburg Alster Centrum issue. The room is very small for 3 persons, but we knew that from previous IBIS-hotels. But still it would be nice with bigger rooms for 3 people.

The pillows were awful (flat and lumpy) and the hallway and room smelled like smoke. Would be nice to have a fitness centre and free coffee in the lobby.

Due to the proximity to the HBH it was very loud as the trains were coming in and out.

All was fine. No issues.
Easy walk from the central Hamburg train station, nearby restaurants were good value, and location made it easy to access public transport or walk to places of interest.

In general, the hotel is a bit out of date but sufficient for short or business trips. Towels arent the softest nor newest. The bed was not very comfortable, atleast if you prefer a more softer mattress or more than one pillow per person.
Breakfast was great, so worth the additional price. Its within reach of most touristic areas. Atleast my room had two doors towards the hallway, so it was very quiet at night. Check-in and -out went smoothly.

Originally assigned room that required climbing steps to get to lift. I specified lift access. After a little resistance the room was changed.

The room was quite noisy, meaning you heared the sounds from the trains but also from other neighbours.

The room was quite worn and several of the lights/lamps did not work.

Checkin guy with red hair was distinctly unfriendly when we checked in - nothing like the lady earlier that day.
Great reception when we arrived even though we couldn't get into our room straightaway. Rooms were comfortable, shower was excellent as was wifi. Breakfast was really plentiful and delicious. Location is really fabulous at about 7 mins from main station and 3 minutes from the Alster.
