Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SpainBreakfast variety could be improved.
Great value hotel well located in Cairo downtown, near two main commercial streets. Large rooms with comfortable beds. Tours can be arranged and good prices are offered. Airport transportation also well organized. Overall, very good for the price.

United KingdomThe hostel is on the top floor with no lift, so anyone with heavy luggage should be aware, stairwell and ornate metal work needs a good clean, but there are different people on each floor, it just makes the approach daunting
Arrived at 7am and was given a hot drink and allowed to leave our bags until check in, staff are very helpful with directions & times of musuems etc, booked 2 beds, got a room with 4 beds in it for our sole use. Lovely old building, just off a main shopping area. Breakfast was the same both days, but the home made falafal was excellant,

LithuaniaSome noise from the street, but if you're coming to a hostel without earplugs, that's your fault.
After reading some horror stories about budget hotels / hostels of Cairo I didn't know what to expect, but the Freedom Hostel turned out great. Awesome staff, great location, comfy beds, cleanliness, good breakfast.

ChinaThe building is in a very busy neighborhood, it’s quite easy to get money from the ATM across the street, and walk to the eateries nearby. The staff working there are very responsive and helpful.

AlgeriaNothing! Yes the building looks run down and there are a lot of stairs but that's part of its charm 😊.
Excellent! The staff were amazing (exceptionally welcoming, professional, friendly, extremely respectful, polite and helpful). The location was great at the heart of the city so options for food, transport and even landmarks in Cairo are pretty much walking distance. The room was very clean and spacious with attached bathroom. The traditional Egyptian breakfast was so tasty. I highly recommend Freedom Hostel.

SpainMost of all it was really noisy. And a hostel, like a whole building require bog renovation. Don't take me wrong though - you're getting what you're paying for. As the place is quite cheap considering the location, it would be unfair to expect high standard.
There are too big advantages of this place: location and staff.

United KingdomStairways - what you have to know is the hostel is on the 3rd floor. In a regular building, 3rd floor does not sound that bad. However, we are talking about a historical building in most of central Cairo that are turned into hostels such as these guys, the Freedom Hostel establishment. So, 3rd floor is practically like climbing up to the 5th floor. So, if you have knee issues, or travelling with heavy suitcases, or elderly parents (which in our case we were travelling with my 70yrs old dad), you better reconsider. The entrance to the hostel and the stairways is very shabby so it may put you off, like it did for me. But like I said, their behaviour and the money they charge made up for what we did not get in facilities. Remember, it is a hostel, so you get what you paid for. So, I will not complain because they are possibly the cheapest stay we had in our entire Egypt trip. In fairness, for that price, it was good and were as we expected. The stairway is the only factor I will highlight because there are no lifts.
The staff were fabulous - the three men who manage this property and offer guest service are beyond extraordinary - professional, friendly, extremely respectful, polite and helpful. They try their best to make their guests feel comfortable and welcomed. The size of our room was massive. Location is a strong point - close to every amenity, right at the heart of the city so options for food, transport and even landmarks in Cairo are pretty much walking distance. The money you pay is what you need to remember and remind yourself - Freedom is probably the cheapest stay in that area/location for the decent and honest service you do get - so we appreciate that and are grateful for it.
