Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomA straightforward hotel with a decent cafeteria. Well placed for travellers arriving by train to Hendaye - it's just ten minutes walk over the bridge.

NetherlandsBathroom was cleaned, but old and full of limescale. Breakfast was decent but minimal in amount and choice. Trains pass on the back, so necessary to keep windows shut to reduce noise.
Great location for those traveling by train between France and Spain. Friendly staff.

United KingdomTerrace could have been nice, but looked out on some dilapidated buildings in the yard. My mattress was a bit lumpy, but bed otherwise good. Had problems with loud music (bass tones) with a neighbouring room, but the receptionist intervened and it stopped. All in all, I found the room too expensive for what it offered.
I arrived early, but I was feeling ill, so asked if my room would be available early. Young man on reception was very kind and sent me to the restaurant to wait. After a short while my room was ready. I chose the hotel because the location to the SNCF in Hendaye was very close. Room was below road level with a small terrace. Room was adequate in size and clean. Receptionist and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of sockets in the room.

NetherlandsThere was no air conditioning in the room (just a ventilator) and it was a quite hot night, so we kept the window open, but this way mosquitos got in.
Lovely house, easy to reach, sited at the border between Spain and France. They welcomed our dog in any space and we enjoyed the cozy bar/restaurant open until late, with a good choice of food and full of people. We loved the breakfast too!

New ZealandExcellent location virtually next to the Santiago bridge between France and Spain. Starting point for Spanish Camino del Norte. Also backs onto train station heading into Irun and San Sebastián Not good sound isolation but train noise not a problem for me The internal hotel room doors closed very loudly unless you were careful. Room was however quiet clean but reasonably basic for the price. Wifi fast stable Breakfast included. Good to see organic coffee. Mostly plastic carbohydrate heavy food. More fresh fruit and vegetable would be healthier options. Particularly given the location on the pilgrim route All the Staff kind and helpful.

NetherlandsThe room was super hot, and although it cooled down well outside in the evening, the room stayed very hot, even with the window completely open the whole evening and night. Closing it was no option, but the terrace below was very noisy until quite late, and there was also a lot of traffic, so it was difficult to sleep, both because of the noise and the heat.
The staff was super friendly. The breakfast was good.

United KingdomShould have realised from the map that the railway runs at the back of the hotel. The last train at night is at about 23:30 and the first in the morning about 06:30 - you have been warned! Oh, did I tell you they sound the train hooter as they approach Ficoba-Irun? Well they do. Not even the double glazing can keep that out but, hey, you're not going to be there forever are you? But it did make for a very tiring journey the next day back to Paris and on to London.
The hotel is just a short walk to the French border and the Hendaia railway station that took me back to Paris, Here on a Monday and a lot of the nearby restaurants were closed! Luckily the hotel's own restaurant is more than adequate and the staff are charming. The beds were comfortable and there was an enormous fan to cool you down. If you're travelling by train the nearest station is Ficoba-Irun and not Hendaye/Hendaia - that's across the border in France. Oh, the room had a weird strip of LED lights on the ceiling that can change colour - not sure why. Similarly the shower rose is illuminated (???)

United States of AmericaOverall, everything was satisfactory. The bed could be softer and the airflow in the room could be better, but overall, no large complaints.
The hotel was exactly as I expected. It is not the fanciest hotel, but it fit my needs perfectly. The restaurant was great for both dinner and breakfast. The location was my main reason for choosing to stay at Hotel Aitana as it is close to the bridge that I wanted to start my Camino del Norte hike.
