Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe couldn’t get parked at the hotel, we where attending a wedding there but all car parks where full and there isn’t parking outside of the hotel grounds
Lovely hotel, room was nice, clean and comfortable with everything I needed. Only downside was lack of parking when events are on. We could not get parked in any of the car parks and there is not much parking available outside the hotel grounds. The breakfast was also average.

United KingdomOne member of staff in the restaurant was a little too familiar making little jokes when booking a table and the when seating us for our meal. Although in no way was it rude it was just a little awkward. We also heard the same staff member talking about another staff member in a detrimental manner. This might just be me being an old grump. the staff overall were very good though.
The hotel is nicely appointed and decorated. The public areas are super with some lovely interior design pieces. The restaurant is also very nicely done out. The food in the restaurant is good also. The rooms are comfortable and clean and there are leisure facilities available. The price I thought was exceptional.

United KingdomDouble bed wasn't a double bed but 2 single beds pushed together. There was a zip in the middle but it was undone because it was broken.
Lovely setting in beautiful grounds and the interior of the building has lots of traditional features.

United KingdomSmoking just outside main entrance should not be allowed. It's not fair on the reception staff as the smell wafts in and customers who don't smoke have to walk through it. Yuk.
I like staying at this hotel. It's convenient and well appointed. The staff are friendly and helpful and the restaurant food is nice.

United Kingdomunfortunately we were 15 people for the evening meal and two meals never came out and although the staff tried to help the problem was they had been forgotten. This meant everyone had long finished on the table when these meals were served.

United KingdomAs in many hotels and restaurants, staffing is a problem. The receptionists were efficient, but the some of the dining room waiters were under18 and had no experience. We had to for cutlery to eat our soup! When we ordered a Tia Maria liqueur coffee he had to go to ask if that was a drink on the menu, then came back to check how it was made! The result was good however. We ordered breakfast in our room as we would be leaving before the restaurant would be open. The breakfast tray arrived at the requested time, but there was no butter with the toast. It was not worth phoning though for a 2nd delivery and risk delaying our departure.
Free parking was plentiful, but spread over 3 different areas. The location is very handy for getting into Darlington, or getting out to Bishop Auckland for the KYNREN show we attended. The rooms were large and spacious, a great relief after staying in a tiny room in Lumley Castle the previous 4 nights! The bathroom fixings were high quality and we had plenty of space even if we had stayed for more than 2 nights. The restaurant was a very large dining room, well decorated, but the menus was typical pub food . This seemed to appeal to most of the diners who were under 40. The food was good. We did not have time to experience the Leisure activities.

United KingdomIt is a big wedding venue so had some very drunk, rawkus guests. They were all in good spirits and not aggressive in any way but I went to the bar for dinner and but had to leave as it was so full-on. But I couldn't hear them in my room so all fine.
The room was very nice and the pool and jacuzzi were nice, though the pool is very small but lovely for a small dip. The dinner and breakfast was lovely. The hotel grounds were great for a morning walk.

United KingdomBar and restaurant staff seemed very inexperienced. Service was very slow, to the point where we gave up waiting at the bar and decided to drink elsewhere. Food was good and was served quickly once we had placed the order but unfortunately we waited 40 minutes for someone to come along and take our order.
Room - modern but in keeping with Style of Hotel - beautiful. Reception staff, welcoming. Theme of hotel runs throughout and is exceptional. Comfortable, warm, easy to find.

United KingdomThe room was close to the access door for the corridor so it banged every time anyone came in. The view was of a brick wall and the roof of the leisure facilities. What let the hotel down, was the restaurant. There was not a lot of choice and the menu only changed every few months. I was left at my table for ages before anyone took my order and didn't get my drink until I asked for it when the foods was delivered. The staff were inexperienced and didn't smile. The food was not much different from a premier inn and after two meals in the restaurant with similar quality and service I couldn't eat there any longer. With a better restaurant and some decent training, the hotel could be excellent.
It had good, easy access from the motorway, with nice building and grounds. The room was fairly small, but clean and a decent sized shower in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the room had tea and coffee facilities.

United KingdomThere was nothing I would wish to highlight.
I travelled to Darlington to meet a friend who was unwell. He had arranged dinner at a local public house so I did not make use of any of the hotel’s facilities. I found the staff extremely helpful and the room, considering the cost, was extremely good value.
