Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

One of the best locations in Stara Baska. We loved privacy of the property with access to the private beach just in front of the property where we stayed alone whole the time. Beach umbrellas and deckchairs are included to your use. The apartment is new, modern, spacious and well equipped with fantastic terrace and view on sea, the Cress island and Stara Baska port. Small shop is 3 minutes walk from the apartment, for the bigger grocery shopping it better to go to Punat. Vanja and Zeilka were amazing hosts and it was always great to chat with them. If you would like to avoid overcrowded Croatia in the high season, this is the place that offers unique privacy. If we go to Krk island next time, this place would be the primary choice.

A friend and I booked the Apartment Smokvina for five nights at the beginning of august 2021. The five stars apartment is located in Stara Baska, at the end of a windy and narrow road at the south coast of the island Krk. The apartment complex looks modern and is surrounded by fig and plum trees, a roofed parking lot is available. It has private access to the sea - what’s better than taking a dip into the clear water right after getting up in the morning? The rooms are spacious and perfectly tidy. One thing we were pleasantly surprised about was having two bathrooms at our disposal, which even luxury hotels don‘t always offer. The hosts gave us a warm welcome and made us instantly feel at home. They explained everything about the apartment and gave us tips for the best beaches near Stara Baska. Especially Oprna Bay is highly recommandable, you need to walk down a pretty steep and pebbly hill though. We also enjoyed spending time at Zala Bay and Surbova Bay, both are within 3km from the apartment and can be reached by car. Krk with its curvy roads and steep ascents is perfect for cycling and running, and your efforts will be rewarded with a beautiful panorama. In short, we highly recommend the Apartment Smokvina and wouldn‘t think twice to book again.
