Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustriaFirst we were put in a room away from the main (renovated) Riad. The bathroom was very old. On our way there was renovation made. The WiFi didn’t work. We complained and we got another suite then. The suite was amazing and new. Everything was very clean apart from the fitting in the bathroom.
The location is great. You step outside and you are in the middle of the old Medina. A lot of restaurants and shops. We enjoyed it so much.

United KingdomThe bathroom is inside the room with no windows to the outside - I was there in winter and it was already quite humid. In summer I can imagine it gets very humid. Having a water scraper to clear excee water could help. And a bathmat outside the bathroom so you can dry your feet when you come out (as shower is open to the bathroom). Breakfast could be a bit more exciting - there are lots of options but bread a bit stale and quality of produce not so high.
Great location right in the middle of the Medina but very quiet (I was there during Ramadan so it was perhaps quieter than usual). Spacious room, nice and clean. Traditional style of building, very charming. Lots of German and French retirees :)

United KingdomEverything was perfect!
You can’t ask for a better location in Essaouria, restaurants, coffee shops and market stalls right in your doorstep. The staff were absolutely brilliant and left my hubby and I a note for our anniversary. They gave us a brilliant duplex room too which has more than enough space for more people with a balcony!!!!

United States of AmericaAs others have mentioned it is very close to 3 loudspeakers for the call to prayer and so yes, it's very loud, but I got used to it and I fell back to sleep after it was over. I actually love it because for me, it's part of the experience of being in a Muslim country. The doors open and close very loudly and I could hear people cough or sneeze, so the walls are not very thick ..but for me it was a minor inconvenience to stay in such an old and lovely place!
I loved staying at this beautiful Riad. The staff were great, very helpful, and I loved sitting in the open courtyard enjoying the scenery while drinking a glass of wine or having my morning breakfast. The location is ideal in the medina and it felt like a sanctuary. I tried their Hammam and had a massage - good experience. I ate several dinners there and the food was great. My room was cozy; there was a heavy soft blanket and a great little space heater. It was plenty big enough for me as a solo traveler. They made my bed every day and brought me fresh towels, which I actually didn't need, but it was nice! I'd stay here again without hesitation! Oh, and there is an awesome orange and white cat 😺 that lives here who I adored and...I added one extra night to extend my stay in Essaouira

Beautifully built plant potted courtyard riad. Staff spot on. Skilled, chatty, helpful and easily capable of maintaining a quality stay in a raft of ways. Great location. Very relaxing. My only quibble is that they don't have a suspended swimming pool they can raise or lower into the sun...

United States of AmericaOur larger suite Dakhla could be nicer. It was sparse and it easily cold our stay. I wish the extra heaters offered would already be in the room.
The staff was helpful, generous and kind. We all loved them.

CanadaThe room could be a little cleaner. It was a little damp and the heater in the room wasn’t the best.
The location was perfect, it was easy to find in the Medina. The night shift employee was super helpful and friendly. It’s a traditional style riad. Enjoyed our short stay in Essourara.

United KingdomRiad al Madina was a little oasis right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle - we couldn’t have asked for a better location. The staff were helpful and attentive throughout our stay even down to arranging our transfers from and back to the airport. Essaouira did not disappoint and we’re glad we chose this lovely coastal resort to experience Morroco as it is definitely much more chilled and relaxed compared to Marrakech.

ArgentinaThe wifi didn’t reach the room. No amenities in the room (bathroom didn’t have shampoo/balsam, no welcome water etc).
The location is exceptional. The hall is beautiful and the room was very spacious. Moreover, reception was open 24/7 and the hotel’s vibe was very chill.

New ZealandDue to the thick walls, you had to find the right spot to access wifi, but you always could.
Such a beautiful old Riad, a calm in the storm of Essouria. The room was on 2 levels with a sitting room and bedroom on one level and bathroom up top. It was a little tired but very cool old style tiles and feel. The windows were double, so even though you were on a busy street, as soon as you closed the windows it was quiet….
