Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaPreference would have been not to have a rain shower as i like the option of hose with a shower head.
Corina and Shanty were very helpful. They answered all our questions and arranged for taxi pick up and excursions. The bar staff (Eliezer and Fabienne) were very friendly and made excellent drinks. The breakfast was amazing. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner. The mexcalito limon was our favourite drink. The water was always warm. There’s a strip of restaurants close by and a convenient store across the street. I would recommend this hotel and would return again. The bathroom was stocked with full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and cream. I loved the roof top area that we had which had lounge chairs, day bed and a private pool. The pool was cold but would be refreshing on a hot day. Amazing star gazing too from rooftop The main pool was lovely and it had a nice area to chill. 2 mins walk, perfect for a sunrise or our favourite sunset swims.

IrelandCan’t really think of any complaints. Hotel itself was just lovely.
Great location. A little a bit away from the real hustle and bustle but still walking distance which made for a lovely peaceful stay. Beautiful lagoon only 2 minute walk, note access was $20 pesos. Breakfast started a bit late for our liking at 8am, but the complimentary coffee station in the room tied us over. Really enjoyed the balcony and pool. Staff were very accommodating, for ordering refreshments. W

United KingdomI liked Everything. I honestly cannot think of anything that would have bothered me.
the location, the drinks, the guac, the sunset, the calamity. It was very relaxing here, seriously, I was so tired and burnt out from work but only 2 nights made a massive difference. I highly recommend this for relaxation. You can put up a hammock in your room's tiny garden, seriously, the absolute best!

NetherlandsThe breakfast is a bit limited and the portions were not so big. For a 5 star hotel, was expecting better!
This is the perfect getaway in Bacalar. I was there with friends, but this is a very romantic place to stay. The location is perfect, 2 minutes away from the beautiful Bacalar lagoon, and the hotel is gorgeous!

United KingdomWe had some problems with hot water which took some time and a change of room to resolve. Personally would prefer rooms with a King bed rather than two smallish queen beds. Included breakfast was very limited
Great location and short walk from the lake and easy stroll into town. Stylish and clean Super friendly and helpful staff

CanadaThe view from the rooftop terrace was incredible, if the option to stay in one of those suites is available, I highly suggest you book it. Proximity to lagoon access was excellent, just a short 2 minute walk to the pier.

GermanyThe hotel was kind enough to give us a free upgrade. The staff was super friendly. The rooms are probably the most comfy we had in Mexico. Air conditioning was quiet and perfect.

United KingdomOur room was nearish to reception and there was a bit too much "chitter chatter" talking from staff / cleaners. They need to remember customers have paid for a relaxing time, especially in the morning.
Best hotel we stayed in on our trip! Very well designed, stylish interior and architecture. Cool pool and sun bathing area. Location is great, next to lagoon. Room was comfortable, wifi quite good. Excellent coffee from restaurant and food was good. Bacalar is beautiful and i'm sure all accomodation in area is decent, but Bacalari seemed to be the greatest and there was a promotion at the time.

United KingdomOne tiny point, a second towel hook in the bathroom. We’d recommend Bacalari to all our family and friends
We loved the location, so close to the lagoon and walking distance to everything in town. The breakfast was delicious a great coffee too. The rooftop was excellent for watching the sunrise and cooling off in the pool. The hotel has bikes you can take out and about to explore which was a bonus. Beautiful planing and decor.

SwitzerlandThe property was in an excellent location, 1 minute walking distance from the lagoon. They provide you with towels and the staff is very friendly towards you! Room was very spacious, and we were lucky to get upgraded since it was our honeymoon, which was an extremely nice gesture from their part. Would definitely recommend, location-wise it is unbeatable. 10 minute walking distance from the main restaurants / bars.

SwitzerlandThe management was unprofessional. The bicycles available for the guests were not maintained and not functional for use. There were not enough umbrellas for all the guests for such level of the hotel. The drinking water was not automatically replenished daily.
The hotel room was comfortable. The location near a good place to swim in the lagoon

AustraliaNothing we didn’t like about this place. the only consideration is proximity to the main city centre. If you don’t mind walking a few blocks (in the intense heat!) it’s fine. Menu at the restaurant was a tad limited in options but convenient if you can’t be bothered venturing out anywhere else.
Everything! This was one of the nicest boutique stays I’ve had. Every little detail including the design and inclusions was just candy for the eyes. Very picturesque against such a beautiful lagoon. Staff were incredible from the moment we walked in - nothing was difficult or hard to organise for us. The common balcony and pool overlooking views of the lagoon in the balmy weather was such a highlight, complete with the best shisha! Great music/playlist as well. Having the restaurant Riad attached was a bonus as well. Our washing was returned within one day and reasonably priced. Room size was super generous, Luxe bedding, super clean, condiments included from the coffee, water and body soaps and creams smelled amazing! And the hot water and water pressure was so good too! Access to the lagoon at the front is so easy to walk out to from the hotel for only 20pesos. Parking is also available close to the hotel on the street. We were so sad to be leaving :(

CanadaService at the pool/restaurant was good but not outstanding.. I think the fact we spoke English intimidated them. I believe this place is relatively new so growing pains are expected.
The view, room, and restaurant/bar.. Close to the lagoon and walking distance to the Fuerte.. The food was very good.

United KingdomThe view wasn't great as it was looking on to a side street. However, the view from the infinity pool was great. It wasn't easy to find on our online maps either, so we had to ask for directions in the street. It was however easy to find once we knew.
The hotel was decorated beautifully. We enjoyed the walkway to the room and up towards the infinity pool. I was also grateful for the welcome cocktail and further hospitality. The location was also great for the lagoon.

Just wauw ! What an amazing place. From the beauty of the place to the friendliness of the staff to the amazing food and the luxurious rooms. Our room on the top floor with a rooftop terrace and plunge pool with views of the equally stunning lagoon was just perfect. Situated on the edge of town where it's quiet day and night but still close enough so you can do everything on foot. Highly recommended !
